Committees of the House  Madam Speaker, I would like to add my congratulations to you becoming a grandmother. That is very exciting. As this is likely the last time I am to take the floor for this parliamentary session, and for this year, I want to extend my gratitude and thanks to all of the staff on Parliament Hill who have made this such a wonderful place to work.

Committees of the House  Madam Speaker, according to Standing Order 18, I do not think the member opposite should be making false accusations like that. That is completely inappropriate.

Carbon Pricing  Madam Speaker, as members of Parliament, we are representatives of the constituents in our ridings. They send us to Ottawa with one very important job, and that is to vote on government policies and programs. Last week, the Conservatives voted on over 120 items that Canadians depend on.

Government Priorities  Madam Speaker, we are very proud of the record we have in delivering $10-a-day child care for families across this country, delivering dental care for low- and moderate-income children and seniors throughout this country and delivering a sustainable future for Canadians across this country.

Carbon Pricing  Madam Speaker, speaking of hypocrisy, we know what the Conservatives wanted to give Canadians for Christmas and that is cuts to the vital programs and services that they care about. In fact, just last week, they voted against $10-a-day child care. They voted against dental care for seniors and for children.

Carbon Pricing  Madam Speaker, I would like to begin by wishing all members in the House happy holidays. I think everybody will be enjoying time with their families over the holidays and we look forward to seeing everyone back here in February. I think it is important to make sure that the facts are right.

Business of the House  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to see that the hon. colleague wants to discuss Ukraine, because Conservatives have blocked and filibustered on several occasions when it comes to Bill C-57. They have moved concurrence motions several times. I would also remind the member that I actually think it is really important that the Conservatives reflect over the holidays and perhaps consider changing their position, because it would be really nice to be able to show Ukraine that solidarity and unanimity that the House has always shown Ukraine.

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, if the Conservatives want to talk about deflection, it is because they do not want to talk about the vote they took against the Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement. There is only one member on the other side who has had the courage of her convictions to stand up to the bullying MAGA style of their leader, and that is the member for Lethbridge.

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, there is another great Englishman who would say to the Leader of the Opposition, “Thou dost protest too much, I believe.” I would ask whether any of the Conservative members have the courage of their conviction to stand up to the bullying the Leader of the Opposition is imposing on them.

Appointment of Clerk  Mr. Speaker, there have been discussions among the parties, and if you seek it, I believe you would find unanimous consent to adopt the following motion. I move: That the motion on the Order Paper in the name of the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons related to the appointment of Eric Janse as Clerk of the House of Commons, pursuant to Standing Order 111.1(1), be deemed adopted.

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, on this side of the House, we are proud to stand up for Canadians. Last week, what the Conservatives did is that they voted consistently against measures that not only make life more affordable for Canadians, but help them in their time of need. On the 988 line, which was just launched with regard to suicide prevention, what did the Conservatives do?

Housing  Mr. Speaker, speaking of Montreal, it is nice to see the Leader of the Opposition show up for work today. I guess there was not a fundraiser that he could attend. However, if we want to talk about last week, what Canadians saw on display was the Leader of the Opposition bringing right-wing Republican tactics to try and shut down the government.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I move that, notwithstanding any Standing Order or usual practice of the House, if the House has not disposed of all questions related to the business of supply for the period ending December 10, 2023, by 11:59 p.m. later this day, the Speaker shall suspend the proceedings of the House until the next calendar day at 7 a.m., at which time the proceedings will resume, provided that (1) in the event that consideration of any motion or bill based on the supplementary estimates (B) is not completed by 11:59 p.m. that day, the Speaker shall again interrupt the proceedings until the next calendar day at 7 a.m., in order to dispose of the business of supply; (2) at the end of the said supply period, the House shall adjourn to the next sitting day, pursuant to Standing Order 24(1).

Business of the House  Mr. Speaker, my hon. colleague knows that the Senate is independent. If he really has questions as to why that amendment passed, he should ask the one-third of Conservative senators who sit in his caucus and did not show up for the vote. I will note that the amendment only passed by one vote, so he should not take out the entire Conservative Party of Canada's frustration with its own caucus on the House of Commons or on Canadians.
