Canada–Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I will say from the outset, because my colleague mentioned the oil industry, that I have family members who work in the oil industry in Newfoundland as well. I support the oil industry wholeheartedly. He mentioned “powerful paycheques”. Could you please give this House your definition of a powerful paycheque?

Canada—Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, the hon. member opposite mentioned that the committee would have liked to fly to Newfoundland to meet with the people at the energy boards and whatnot. Could he please inform the House what that plane burns to get Newfoundland?

Canada—Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member opposite for his passionate speech. He should look at joining a theatre group somewhere along the way. Why can we not do them all? Could we not do wind energy, oil energy and tidal energy? We have got an ideal spot to start it right in the Maritimes, the Atlantic provinces, to do just that.

Canada—Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, with the minister being a colleague of mine from Newfoundland and Labrador, I am sure he is very proud of the oil industry in our province. He mentioned the Port of Argentia. I am sure he remembers being there to announce a $38-million investment as the port gets involved in wind energy.

Volunteerism  Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize a constituent in my riding who has single-handedly done more for his community than any other person I know. Heber Best, of Kelligrews, Conception Bay South, has been a volunteer for more than half a century, volunteering with organizations such as the Red Cross, CNIB and the local Lions Club, a group he was instrumental in introducing to our town 53 years ago.

Government Business No. 34—Proceedings on Bill C-62  Madam Speaker, I know this is a very important discussion on MAID being available to people with mental illness. If people are in a certain mental state, obviously they are not considered to be of sound mind when they try to make that decision. Who would make that decision in their place?

Government Business No. 30—Proceedings on Bill C-56  Madam Speaker, on the whole affordability issue, and this bill apparently deals with affordability, how can we guarantee that it is going to go down or get easier for constituents in my, the member's and everybody else's ridings? We have tried this and that, and we have said that we were going to lower prices, but people are still feeling the pinch.

Government Business No. 30—Proceedings on Bill C-56  Madam Speaker, I cannot answer for why it took so long. I do not sit around the cabinet table for discussions on which policies come forward and which do not. However, I am delighted, and I know the people in my riding are delighted, that we are actually moving this envelope forward.
