Mr. Speaker, we have made record investments in science, technology and innovation.

Let me add one other thing, if I might. We have great respect for the victims of Lac-Mégantic.

Our commitment to science, technology, and innovation is unprecedented in this country and it will remain so under this government.

Mr. Speaker, our government is proud of the measures it has taken to support Canada's tourism industry.

We launched the federal tourism strategy to ensure that Canada will continue to create jobs and growth in major sectors.

Canada's tourism industry is flourishing. A record number of tourists chose destinations in Canada last year.

Mr. Speaker, our government has made record investments in science, technology and innovation, which have helped create jobs and opportunities and have improved the lives of Canadians.

The National Research Council came to an agreement with the University of Ottawa to ensure that research will continue in the short term at the National Ultrahigh-field NMR Facility for Solids.

Mr. Speaker, our government, as this member knows, has made record investments in science, technology, and innovation, and creates jobs and opportunities and improves the lives of Canadians.

He should know that the National Research Council has come to an agreement with the University of Ottawa to ensure that research continues at the Ultrahigh-Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility for Solids over the short term. The University of Ottawa plans to transfer the research to a new facility soon. He would want to know that.

Mr. Speaker, I now will answer this in English because when I answered it in French, it seemed to me that there was some miscommunication.

The member knows full well that the pyrrhotite issue falls within the provincial jurisdiction. In fact, the Government of Quebec launched a provincial program to provide financial assistance for homeowners dealing with pyrrhotite damage in August 2011.

I have said, and I will say it again, I urge those who are concerned about this to contact the Société d'habitation du Québec.

Mr. Speaker, as the hon. member knows full well, the pyrrhotite problem falls under provincial jurisdiction.

The Government of Quebec has launched a provincial program to provide financial support to owners who are struggling with pyrrhotite damage.

[Telecommunications Industry, November 6th, 2014]

Mr. Speaker, I am delighted to hear that the member is particularly concerned, no less concerned than the Minister of Industry and the government.

Let me be absolutely clear, under no circumstances will our government take spectrum licences away from any local Internet service provider that is providing Internet service to rural Canadians. That is very clear and I hope the member appreciates that.

[Co-operatives, November 5th, 2014]

Mr. Speaker, I would like to acknowledge that member along with the member for Elgin—Middlesex—London for the strong work they have done over the years on co-operatives. I think that leadership was important.

As that member would know very well, for 100 years co-operatives have been a fundamental part of communities across the country in creating jobs and promoting growth.

Let me say with regard to our action plan that our government has launched a four-point action plan to support the growth and innovation of co-operatives across Canada. That is a review of Industry Canada's programs to identify obstructions that any co-operative would have. We think that is great news for co-operatives and we would like to celebrate them.

To share some good news with that member, Mr. Speaker, he knows clearly that we live in a digital world and what connects our digital economy is the opportunity for Canadians right across the country to benefit.

We have put in place the Digital Canada 150, intended to take full advantage of that digital economy. Over the next couple of years that will be fully in place across the country.

[Manufacturing Industry, October 31st, 2014]

Mr. Speaker, actually we do not mind relying on statistics from this side of the House.

However, there are a couple of things that they need to understand. Since the worst recession in our lifetimes, the business community has created more than one million mostly full-time, mostly permanent, jobs in the country. That is since the worst recession. That is a record that Canada can be proud of. I wish the member opposite would accept that as very good news.
