I call the meeting to order.

We are meeting today, pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, May 5, with regard to Bill C-471, an act respecting the implementation of the recommendations of the pay equity task force and amending another act in consequence.

We will go to clause-by-clause consideration.

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of the preamble and clause 1 is postponed.

(On clause 2--Implementation of recommendations)

Are there any motions?

I think we have a motion with regard to clause 2. It is from Ms. Neville.

Thank you, Madam Chair.

Madam Chair, I apologize first of all for being late. It was not my intention, but the buses do not facilitate travel today, and it's a problem.

What we have put forward on clause 2 is an amendment related to the dates. Members of the committee will note that the original motion was for January 1, 2011, and would have implemented the pay equity task force recommendations no later than January 1, 2012. We are putting forward amendments to change that to allow an additional six months for the implementation.

The six months, members will recall, are commensurate with the prorogation of Parliament that took place. I would ask for members' support in changing the dates. I think it's not significant, and it would make for a more appropriate implementation schedule.
