Statements in the House

COVID-19 Pandemic and Other Matters July 8th, 2020

Madam Chair, the Minister of National Revenue fights for her constituents and her region every day. She has spoken out publicly on this issue. She has also spoken with the Quebec government and the Minister of Transport. She is very actively involved in this issue and does not need to take lessons from the Bloc Québécois.

COVID-19 Pandemic and Other Matters July 8th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I am very pleased to see you again and to see our colleagues and friends here.

On the contrary, during the past few weeks the government has worked to continue to support Canadians who have lost their jobs and who need a helping hand, to address public health issues and to help small and medium-sized businesses. The Government of Canada will continue to do its job for all Canadians.

Business of the House July 8th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, there have been discussions among the parties and if you seek it, I think you will find unanimous consent to adopt the follow motion.

I move:

That, notwithstanding any standing order, special order or usual practice of the House, during the debate on Government Business No. 8 later this day, a member of each recognized party and a member of the Green Party may speak to the motion for not more than 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for questions and comments, provided that members may be permitted to split their time with another member and, at the conclusion of the time provided for debate pursuant to this order, the committee shall rise, the motion shall be deemed withdrawn and the House shall adjourn until Wednesday, July 22, 2020, pursuant to the order adopted on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

Supplementary Estimates, 2020-21 June 17th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. This concludes the sitting.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, Mr. Speaker, thank your team, and thank the people working really hard at the table. I want to thank all MPs, including the House leaders from the other parties, their teams, and our team in my House leader office.

I would like to thank the whips and their teams, all the staff helping all of us to work day after day, and all the branches of the House administration. Of course, the pages have provided us with a great song today, even though we did not have the chance to meet too much.

I want to thank everyone. Our points of view and sometimes our principles do not always align, but we are all here for the same reason, which is to do our best to represent our constituents. I think that we all do so with courage and dignity, and we are all better for it. I want to thank all members of the House of Commons. I wish each and every one of you a wonderful summer.

Business of Supply June 17th, 2020

Madam Chair, we are currently having discussions with the Government of Quebec.

This is an absolute priority for both governments.

Business of Supply June 17th, 2020

Madam Chair, despite my Latin roots, I am going to remain very calm.

I would simply point out to my hon. colleague that the Bloc Québécois has spent its entire existence telling Quebeckers that they should say yes, but now all the Bloc can say is no.

Business of Supply June 17th, 2020

Madam Chair, that reminds me of the lyrics of the song Paroles, paroles by Alain Delon and Dalida: “just words, always words”.

The Government of Canada is working closely with the Government of Quebec. We are not collaborating just once a week, but rather every day and on a number of files. We are very pleased to do so. We will continue to work with the Government of Quebec.
