We'll call the meeting to order. I first of all want to thank everyone for attending the subcommittee. Today we're looking at two Senate bills. I'm going to turn it over to the analyst. He can walk us through the elements, and then from there we'll carry on.

Today the subcommittee is looking at two Senate bills according to the standing orders. The only justification for designating a bill non-votable is that a similar bill has been already voted on by the House of Commons in the same Parliament.

Bill S-201 prohibits any person from requiring an individual to undergo a genetic test, or disclose the results of a genetic test, as a condition of providing goods or services to, entering into, or continuing a contract or agreement with, or offering specific conditions in a contract or agreement with, that individual.

Also, “It amends the Canada Labour Code to protect employees from being required to undergo or to disclose the results of a genetic test, and the Canadian Human Rights Act to prohibit discrimination on the ground of genetic characteristics.”

I did some research, and no similar bill has been voted on by the House of Commons in the current Parliament.

Bill S-208 designates May 20 as National Seal Products Day.

I also did some research on this, and it appears no similar bill has been voted on by the House of Commons in the current Parliament.

Any questions from any of the members?

Would we have consent that the subcommittee present a report listing those items, which have been determined should not be designated non-votable, and recommend they be considered by the House?

We're all okay with that?

We don't even need a motion on that.

That's the motion. We don't have to vote on it.

Everyone agrees to that?

We have unanimous consent.

Excellent.

Any other items that you all want to discuss today? No.

The meeting is adjourned.
