I'd like to call the meeting to order.

Welcome, everyone.

The first item I'm going to deal with, colleagues, is the approval of the minutes of the steering committee meeting that was held today. Those minutes have been circulated. There are two points. First is the rescheduling of the hearing that was originally scheduled for this Thursday. The Governor-in-Council appointments process is going to be rescheduled for Thursday, June 11, 2009. Second, the steering committee is recommending that this committee ought to study selected departmental performance reports following their release in the fall of 2009.

I want to spend a minute. You've got the calendar. It has changed somewhat from what's in front of you. This Thursday, May 8, we will be doing the draft reports. That hearing that's in the calendar will not be taking place on that particular date.

Next Tuesday, in the morning, we have the tabling of the May 2009 report of the Auditor General of Canada with the lock-up, with the meeting, inviting all members of Parliament and senators. That afternoon, from 3:30 to 5:30, we will again be going to draft reports.

On Wednesday, May 13, all committee members will be invited to a luncheon with the parliamentary delegation from Pakistan. It's not a meeting of the public accounts committee, but it's a parliamentary delegation that you will be invited to.

On May 14 we will be hearing from the Auditor General on all her reports that were tabled on the previous Tuesday in a public, presumably televised, meeting.

We're then going into the final break week of the session.

On May 26 we have scheduled national security intelligence and information sharing.

On May 28 we have draft reports.

Then we're into June, colleagues. On June 2 we have a hearing on managing risk to Canada's plant resources.

That Thursday we're doing draft reports.

On June 9 we're having a hearing on passport services.

Then, on June 11, where it says “draft reports” you can pencil in the Governor-in-Council appointments. That hearing will be held that date. Then the steering committee may come back to you at a later date for the recommendation on June 16 for a hearing, depending on what is filed by the Auditor General next Tuesday.

Then we have draft reports on June 18. I believe that will take us to the end of the year. We may have to meet on June 23, but that's extremely unlikely.

So in a broad brush, that's the schedule of the meetings from now until the end of the summer break.

Are there any comments or discussions on the steering committee meetings and attached schedule?

If not, we will accept the motion for their acceptance as circulated, Mr. Christopherson.

(Motion agreed to)

Okay. I'm going to adjourn the meeting for 30 seconds so we can resume in camera.
