Mr. Speaker, the Government of Canada recognizes that an overall plan of action is needed in order to address violence against native women. We are involved in the Sisters in Spirit program and we shall be announcing it as soon as possible.

Mr. Speaker, first, we have not received any request. Second, if a request is made, we will have to look at the whole situation, not just in Montreal, but also in the regions. We will have to take into consideration the viability of AM radio stations and the jobs retained, both in Montreal and in the regions.

Mr. Speaker, we are well aware that the CRTC makes its decisions totally at arm's length. Let us also not forget that this transaction has the positive effect of increasing regional coverage by regional radio stations.
The case of CKAC is unique. If an application is made, we will then review the whole decision. However, until such time, this is a decision that was made by the CRTC in a context where there are problems regarding AM radio—
Francophone and Acadian Communities February 3rd, 2005
Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for his question. We are currently negotiating with communities. As members are aware, the agreements will be signed around March 31. The government is very sensitive indeed to the demands of the francophone communities outside Quebec.
We continue to work with these communities and maintain our good relationship with them.
World Aquatic Championships January 31st, 2005
Mr. Speaker, I find it literally scandalous to pillory the efforts of the mayor of Montreal, since it is well known that FINA and the championships will bring over $70 million to Montreal. When you love Quebec, when you love Montreal, you defend it. That is why there are absolutely no Conservatives in Quebec.

Mr. Speaker, I must say that we are extremely proud of the efforts of the mayor of Montreal, who said yesterday at a press conference that he had the support of the Prime Minister of Canada.
Like the Prime Minister of Canada, I can say that supporting Montreal means supporting Quebec too.

That said, when a sensationalist headline is used just to create controversy, it would be nice if we could be professional and mature enough not to fuel the rumour.

Mr. Speaker, if the hon. member had read the entire text instead of just the headline, she would have also seen that Mr. Rabinovitch said, “I have been here for five years. During these five years I have never received a phone call from a minister about programming”. I have never called to ask him to change programming. Mr. Rabinovitch reiterated that his “rapport with the Minister of Heritage is very good” that “Liza Frulla is a woman of ideas”—that is what he said—and he indicated that he was “open to discussion with the minister”, but he stressed that, in the end, he is the one who makes the decisions.
