Petitions November 6th, 2002

Madam Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 36, I wish to present two petitions on behalf of the citizens of Lambton--Kent--Middlesex.

The first petition calls upon Parliament to protect children by taking all necessary steps to ensure that all materials which promote or glorify pedophilia or sado-masochistic activities involving children are outlawed.

Remembrance Day November 6th, 2002

Mr. Speaker, November 11 is a day that gives Canadians time to pause and reflect on Canada's history, as well as what Canada is and stands for in the world today. Above all, it is an occasion to remember the valiant men and women who sacrificed their lives in the interests of Canada.

On Remembrance Day we remember the more than 1.5 million Canadians who fought for Canada in World War I, World War II and the Korean War. We recognize the more than 100,000 soldiers who died and the enormous sacrifices made by their families who were split apart by war and tragedy.

We remember the men and women who have sacrificed their lives in the service of peace and who continue to defend our country and our interests today. At the same time, we recognize the reasons they fought, namely the values, freedoms and way of life that we cherish and are privileged to enjoy today. These include the liberties that we take for granted and our ability to actively participate in political, social and cultural life in Canada.

That is why we stop on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to remember the cost of freedom and to honour those who have paid the price for it.

Natural Resources November 5th, 2002

Mr. Speaker, in 1997 a pipeline company proposed to cross prime farm properties in southwestern Ontario and served notice under the National Energy Board Act. Three years later the farmers have spent thousands of dollars to protect their interests after the company abandoned its application. The National Energy Board Act in its present form leaves our landowners vulnerable and liable.

Would the Minister of Natural Resources tell the House and all landowners how the government plans to address this major problem?

The Environment October 31st, 2002

Mr. Speaker, my question is for the Minister of Natural Resources. I am pleased that the government has set a target of 1 billion litres of ethanol to be produced each year by 2010.

Would the Minister of Natural Resources explain to the House and to all Canadians how the government plans to meet these targets?

Agriculture October 30th, 2002

Mr. Speaker, my question is for the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Concerns have been raised by producers that consistent, accurate information regarding NISA payments is needed. Could the minister assure farmers that they will be able to trigger transitional funding through NISA even if they have already withdrawn funds from their accounts this year?
