Petitions December 6th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I have two additional petitions to present on these issues on behalf of Anne Pinkoski and Norma Wood. I present two petitions asking that Parliament not amend the human rights code, the Canadian Human Rights Act or the Charter of Rights and

Freedoms in any way which would tend to indicate societal approval of same sex relationships.

Mr. Speaker, the third petition asks that Parliament make no changes in the law which would sanction or allow the aiding or abetting of suicide or active or passive euthanasia.

Petitions December 6th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, the second petition prays that Parliament extend the same protection to the unborn child as that enjoyed by born human beings.

Petitions December 6th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 36 I rise to present several petitions.

On behalf of Darcy Siggelkow I present three petitions. The first petition asks Parliament not to amend the human rights code or the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in any way which would indicate societal approval of same sex relationships.

Canada Pension Plan November 16th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I have just completed a series of town hall meetings in my riding about the desperate state of Canada's social programs.

Constituents were dismayed to learn that in just 15 years current social safety nets plus interest may consume 100 per cent of federal spending. But what upset them most was the fact that they are getting ripped off worse than they thought by the federal government.

They thought they were paying into the Canada pension plan as an investment for their retirement. But because of government mismanagement, the CPP fund is short hundreds of billions of dollars which means that contributions are little more than a payroll tax.

Constituents want to know why the Minister of Human Resources Development did not address the CPP problem in his discussion paper. They wonder why the minister is not moving away from the present debt ridden social welfare state.

Members Of Parliament November 15th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, I ask the Deputy Prime Minister: when, when?

Members Of Parliament November 15th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, the Minister of Finance repeatedly asks for ways to cut the deficit. We have been giving numerous suggestions over the years to reduce government spending and here is another one.

Will the Deputy Prime Minister show leadership and take action now before November 21 to reform the unbelievably rich MP pension plan?

Members Of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act October 20th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, in just 31 days a group of MPs will be swaggering up to the trough and stuffing their snouts into it. Yes, 52 MPs will become eligible to slurp from the insanely rich MP pension fund November 21. Potentially they could suck $53 million out of the pockets of Canadian taxpayers.

Canadians find it absolutely unacceptable when the Prime Minister says he is dedicated to spending cuts and continues to allow this kind of taxpayer abuse.

The national debt is now $534,994,000,000. Canadians demand the Prime Minister act now to stop national trough day before it is too late.

Government Finances October 19th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, the minister says everything is on the table, which includes taxing RRSPs.

Will the minister commit to Canadians that he will make spending cuts including his own regional development program and not go after Canadian RRSPs?

Government Finances October 19th, 1994

Mr. Speaker, the Minister of Finance says that Canadians can expect the deepest spending cuts in history, cuts that could total at least $6.3 billion in the next two years.

Is the minister willing to play a leadership role and make spending cuts in his own backyard, namely cuts to the federal office of regional development in Quebec, a program for which he is directly responsible?
