Free Trade Agreements  With increasing growth through trade, it comes as no surprise that more than 60% of our economy and one in five Canadian jobs are generated by trade. Sadly, the anti-trade NDP has opposed our pro-trade plan at every turn. It even sent two of its members on an anti-trade mission to Washington. The NDP's ill-informed, out of touch anti-trade position is out of step with global economic realities.

Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada  The NDP claims to support trade, but it has opposed every single free trade deal brought forward by our government and even sent an anti-trade mission to Washington to advocate against Canadian jobs. Yesterday it tried to claim that it was standing up for Canadian taxpayers, but the NDP has a plan to impose a new $20-billion carbon tax on everything.

Foreign Investment  It is Canada's long-standing policy that all dispute resolutions should be open to the public and that the submissions made by the parties be available to the public. It is unfortunate that anti-trade activists have continued to spread such misinformation about this agreement.

Foreign Investment  At the other end of the spectrum, the other extreme, the NDP members would virtually block everything. They are even against NAFTA. They are anti-trade. This is not responsible. We are open for foreign investment.

Agriculture and Agri-Food  This is expected to double the value of Canadian exports by some $150 million annually. Unlike the anti-trade NDP, our government continues to open up markets and provide opportunities for our producers.

Business of Supply  We can be just as certain that were the NDP to get in power, it would be extremely rare to ever see one approved. We have heard this anti-trade, anti-development rhetoric from them all day. Those of us who come from provinces where the NDP has been in power know the devastating impact and effect that it would have should the NDP ever get the opportunity and ability to make those decisions.

Business of Supply  They need do no more than take a look at Saskatchewan and where it sat for decades as they applied their principles. They come with many disguises, but the reality is that they always come back to being anti-trade and anti-development, and we certainly see that here today as well. I kind of got a kick out of the member opposite saying that Canadians get nothing out of this investment in Alberta.

New Democratic Party of Canada  Unfortunately, the NDP has opposed and attempted to delay that plan at every turn. Sadly, this comes as no surprise from a party that is anti-jobs, anti-trade and anti-economic growth. NDP members have opposed our pro-trade plan by voting against free trade agreements that we have brought before this House. They also, shamefully, sent an anti-trade delegation to the U.S. to advocate against Canadian jobs.

Foreign Investment  What does the NDP have against investment? What does it have against trade? When will that party stop being an anti-trade party?

Foreign Investment  They say that they care about foreign investment when they do not. They are against foreign investment. They are anti-trade. They propose putting a carbon tax of $21.5 billion on the shoulders of Canadians. That is irresponsible. Canadians can count on their responsible government, a government that is open to foreign investment as long as it provides a net benefit for Canada.

International Co-operation  We are focused on achieving tangible results for those most in need. We know that the NDP is anti-investment, anti-business and anti-trade. Now we have learned that the NDP is also anti-international development. While the NDP is focused on a $21 billion carbon tax, we are focused on helping those most in need.

International Trade  Free trade with the EU would bring new opportunities to workers and to their families from coast to coast to coast, including my home province of Ontario. While the anti-trade NDP continues to stand in the way of Canadian exporters, our government is focused on the opportunities for Canadians.

Foreign Investment  Under the agreement, any decision emanating from dispute resolution would be made public. Despite the fearmongering of the anti-trade critics, the agreement does not impair Canada's ability to regulate and legislate in such areas as the environment, culture, safety, health and conservation. Furthermore, restrictions in the agreement will preserve Canada's current ability to review foreign investments under the Investment Canada Act to ensure that they provide a net benefit to Canadians and that our national security is not compromised.

International Trade  Mr. Speaker, the NDP's anti-trade record is clear. The NDP members oppose free trade with Panama. They opposed free trade with Colombia. They even stood in the House to oppose free trade with Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

Jobs and Growth Act, 2012  Frankly, I think Canadian businesses are frightened of that prospect. They are frightened of the fact that the NDP is anti-investment and anti-trade. Canadians deserve better than this radical opposition. Unlike the NDP, our Conservative government will not raise taxes or slash transfers to the provinces. In fact, just today PricewaterhouseCoopers said that Canada has one of the best tax systems, including for small to medium-size businesses to thrive.
