Official Languages committee  The whips always change parliamentary secretaries and committee members. There is no provision in the Standing Orders for this committee or any other parliamentary committee to remove a member from a committee, let alone remove a member as chair of a parliamentary association such as ParlAmericas.

Points of Order  Mr. Speaker, earlier today in question period, one of my Alberta colleagues, the member for Calgary Forest Lawn, in asking a question, used the phrase “anti-Alberta minister” in reference to the environment minister. You asked him to rephrase his question. A simple Google search shows that, over the years, members of all four recognized parties in the House have used the phrase “anti-Alberta” or “anti-Quebec” in standing up for their constituents in ways that their constituents would expect them to stand up.

Human Resources committee  The clerk has advised me that the sound of everybody appearing virtually has been tested and is fine. We have a quorum, so with that I will call to order meeting number 116 of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities. I assume you've familiarized yourself with the new technology in the room.

Public Safety committee  I call this meeting to order. Welcome to meeting number 109 of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security. Pursuant to the order of reference referred to the committee on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, May 27, 2024, the committee commences its study of Bill C-70, an act respecting countering foreign interference.

Parliament of Canada Act  Again, for the purpose of that application, we would be considered as needing to know because we need to know. Too often I have seen, at different standing committees, where officials either will skate around the question or will avoid the question entirely by saying that due to operational security reasons they cannot disclose the information.

Transport committee  I call this meeting to order. Welcome to meeting number 118 of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, the committee is commencing its study of the Competition Act and air travel in northern, rural and remote communities.

Agriculture committee  I call this meeting to order. Welcome to meeting number 106 of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food. I will start with a few reminders. Today’s meeting is taking place in a hybrid format.

Parliament of Canada Act  Pursuant to Standing Order 93, the recorded division stands deferred until Wednesday, June 5, at the expiry of the time provided for Oral Questions.

Pharmacare Act  All remaining motions have been examined, and the Chair is satisfied that they meet the guidelines expressed in the note to Standing Order 76.1(5) regarding the selection of motions in amendment at the report stage. Motions Nos. 1 to 6 and 8 to 12 will be grouped for debate and voted upon according to the voting pattern available at the table.

Opposition Motion—Summer Tax Break  Pursuant to Standing Order 45, the division stands deferred until Monday, June 3, at the expiry of the time provided for Oral Questions.

House debate  A motion to adjourn the House under Standing Order 38 deemed to have been moved.

Business of Supply  I do not know how much of a benefit that is, because people are going to pay a whole lot more on the gas in order to achieve that $670 amount, yet Conservatives seem to think that this is a sound policy. That does not say anything about the policy that the Conservatives do not have in regard to our environment.

International Trade committee  I will call the meeting to order. Welcome to meeting 108 of the Standing Committee on International Trade. I have a quick message about audio feedback. To all members and people participating in person, you'll see a little card on your desk and a place where you can put your earpiece when not in use.

Privilege  Disregarding the rules is one thing; disregarding the authority of the Chair when one is called to order is another. As the member for New Westminster—Burnaby stated in his point of order on May 1, 2024, criticizing such decisions in the House amounts to challenging the Chair, which is contrary to our practices.

Business of Supply  However, as a Canadian, as the only member of Parliament who has been honoured to receive the Order of Canada and as an officer of the Order of Canada I can say that the slogan of the Order of Canada is that we “desire a better country”. However, that means this country. It does not suggest there is a better country somewhere else.
