Ethics  While I am on my feet, I know that the member across the way has been a very generous and prolific donor to the separatist cause in Quebec. I also know that there was a comment made by one of his Liberal colleagues: Canada’s in bad shape right now because Albertans are controlling our community and social democratic agenda.

41st General Election  While I am on my feet, I have a second question for the hon. member. Of course he is known for giving 29 donations to the separatists. Is he now a federalist?

41st General Election  Speaking of transparency, maybe the member will take this occasion finally to rise on the question of political finance. After his 29 donations to the separatist party, is he now a federalist?

41st General Election  What I find so troubling is that the member does not have the same degree of generosity with taxpayers that he did 29 times with his separatist friends back home.

41st General Election  Speaking of transparency, I would like to ask the member to stand in the House and state whether or not, after all the donations he made to the separatists, he is federalist.

Intergovernmental Affairs  Why do you not help all of us do the work of uniting our country by standing now in your place, after 29 donations to the separatists in Quebec, and declare that you support federalism. I ask him to please do so.

Labour Organizations  Speaking of PSAC, it represents federal public servants whose jobs rely on a united Canada, but it endorsed the separatists in the last provincial election. What does the member think about that?

Ethics  Speaker, I have already answered that question, but the hon. member has not answered the question posed to him. Québec solidaire is a party that says the PQ and the Bloc Québécois are not separatist enough. The hon. member gave donations totalling $3,700, including $150 which he gave while sitting in a supposedly federal Parliament. I invite the member to stand in this House and confirm if he continues to be an active financial supporter of the hardest line separatist party in Quebec.

Ethics  Speaker, at no time did I suggest that the supporters of the NDP were breaking the law when they contributed to the separatist cause in Quebec. That is not a criminal offence; it is a political position. All I ask is for the hon. member who has contributed to that position on 29 occasions to rise in this House and say whether or not he is a federalist.

Ethics  Speaker, speaking of electoral financing, I just pointed out that a member of that party's shadow cabinet is giving money to the hardest line separatist party in Quebec. The problem that the Québec solidaire has with the PQ and the Bloc Québécois is that those parties are not separatist enough. That member is making donations to that party at the same time as he sits in the federal Parliament in a supposedly federalist party proposing himself to be a future federal cabinet minister.

Taxation  We could also use transparency on the member's position. He gave 29 donations to a hard-line separatist Quebec party. Why does he not stand and indicate to us in the spirit of transparency whether he is a federalist?

Ethics  I find the audacity of the hon. member impressive, his ability to stand and talk about illegal donations when he and the rest of his party, especially his leader, tried to cover up $340,000 in illegal union money. While he gave donations to a separatist party while sitting in a supposedly federalist caucus, he then stands in the House of Commons and refuses to answer today if he is a federalist or not. Now is his chance.

Ethics  The member talked about five donations. Actually, it was 29 donations that his seatmate gave to the separatist party in Quebec. He will not answer the question as to whether he is in fact a federalist after all those donations. If the member would look to his side he can ask his colleague so that he can report to the House whether he is sitting next to a federalist or not.

Ethics  What we do know for sure is that the member donated not once, not twice, but 29 times to the separatist Québec solidaire. When I asked him if he was a federalist, he talked about his love. The reality is that sometimes love is not enough. There are many people who love Canada. That does not mean that they are federalists.

Ethics  The hon. member across the way has not responded to the obvious questions that Canadians are posing to him. He gave not one, not two, but twenty-nine donations to the hard-line separatists, Québec solidaire. All we are asking is that he tell us his position on Québec solidaire's support for sovereignty. Is he a federalist, yes or no?
