Committees of the House  Washington had already announced a slew of sanctions against the Iranian morality police and several security officials on September 22. Iran's strict dress code forces women to wear the Islamic head scarf, but according to videos posted online, women are leading the protests in Iran. Schoolgirls even organized rallies in several regions, where they removed their hijabs and shouted anti-regime slogans.

Criminal Code  That is why, three years ago, we were able to get the House of Commons to finally recognize February 22 as Human Trafficking Awareness Day. However, when we look at the legislation that the government has introduced over the past eight years regarding human trafficking, it is taking Canada in the wrong direction.

Criminal Code  To Darla, the moms and dads, and everyone involved in ending human trafficking, this small change can happen. The time to end 22 years of inaction is now. The opportunity will not be lost.

National Defence committee  Set conditions to develop and build future force capability. To this effect, I offer the following observations for MPs as stakeholders in what General Brodie calls the modern mobilization mindset and in the movement to regenerate the CAF and ensure the operational readiness of a vital and venerable national institution and instrument of foreign policy and national power.

National Framework on Cancers Linked to Firefighting Act  Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Yukon are the only jurisdictions in Canada that currently recognize that women's diseases, such as cervical and ovarian cancers, are linked to firefighting. Nova Scotia announced on March 22, 2022, that effective July 1 of this year, it too would add cervical and ovarian cancers and 11 other cancers, bringing the total numbers of cancers recognized in Nova Scotia to 19, the current maximum in Canada.

Situation in Ukraine  There are 60 battalions, tactical groups, that the Russians are lining up on the border. Russia outnumbers Ukraine four to one in military personnel, 22 to one in fighter planes, 15 to one in attack helicopters and five to one in battle tanks. They are asking for our help in their hour of need, and other allies have responded: the U.S., the U.K., Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic.

Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act  Approximately 3.5% of Canadians identified as Black in the last census, yet Black Canadians make up more than 7% of those in prison. When we look at indigenous and racialized women, the figures are even more stark. Zinger reported that Black women made up just over 9% of women incarcerated and indigenous women made up a shocking 42% of the population in women's prisons.

Business of Supply  Former President Trump gave that deadline and indicated that the U.S. were going to withdraw. This was reiterated by President Biden. The Liberal MP, the member for Thunder Bay—Rainy River raised these concerns two years ago with the Liberal government. Let us go back to some of the situations here. I am going to read from a national media article that I wrote on July 22, months before Kabul fell: Being able to communicate with a population is essential when you are conducting military operations.

Finance committee  A lawyer in our clinic system in Thunder Bay was told by Service Canada that there would be no reassessment for 2021. In another situation, a Toronto MP's office contacted both the CRA and Service Canada on behalf of a senior constituent only to be told that nothing could be done. That senior was given a list of nearby food banks. We need a systemic solution.

Health committee  This is an issue that Canadians care about deeply. Mr. Chair, I need to explain why, as a local MP, I had to sign this letter, and why I believe all members of this committee should support this motion. Due to the dedicated work by a group of long-term care families, multiple stories emerged from a long-term care home in my riding.

Criminal Code  It has not even been two full months since this House designated February 22 as National Human Trafficking Day. StatsCan says that about 4.7 million Canadian women, 30% of all women in Canada, 15 years of age and older, have been victims of sexual assault at least once and 55% of women who identify as being in an indigenous group have experienced violence since the age of 15.

Committees of the House  That is why the all-party group to end modern-day slavery here in Canada, the APPG, has been hard at work to get February 22 designated as the national day of awareness. This date recognizes the unanimous adoption by this House of former MP Joy Smith's Motion No. 153, which happened back in 2007. That motion condemned the trafficking of women and girls, and called for Canada to combat the trafficking of persons worldwide.
