Veterans Affairs committee  It's up to the committee to decide.

January 31st, 2008Committee meeting

The Clerk of the Committee

Veterans Affairs committee  We would be back on Tuesday. I sent out the itinerary yesterday.

January 31st, 2008Committee meeting

The Clerk

Veterans Affairs committee  If we go to Goose Bay on Wednesday, I'll just have to ask CFB Goose Bay if they can accommodate us on that day. I don't have an answer right now, but I could get back to the committee.

January 31st, 2008Committee meeting

The Clerk

Veterans Affairs committee  I'll try. I'll talk to CFB Goose Bay.

January 31st, 2008Committee meeting

The Clerk

Veterans Affairs committee  It's six including the chair. Basically, the chair goes on only one side. Because there are twelve members of the committee, we split it right down the line in the middle. So six members will go on one side, and a different set of six members will go on the other side.

January 29th, 2008Committee meeting

The Clerk

Veterans Affairs committee  Six west and six east.

January 29th, 2008Committee meeting

The Clerk of the Committee

Veterans Affairs committee  When the logistics officer called, that's the quote we got for the time of year when we're going. Obviously if we find that a charter is cheaper, the money that is over budget will come back in that case. But we always go with what is cheapest. That is the quote we got. If members use their points, as was mentioned, then the money comes back as well.

December 6th, 2007Committee meeting

The Clerk of the Committee

Veterans Affairs committee  We've already sent the “blues” of the meeting. The only problem is that they are unofficial, untranslated documents of the House of Commons. It's up to the committee whether or not to send the blues out to the ombudsman. The documents are made public as official transcripts when they've been edited and translated, and they are available on the website for only the public part of the meeting.

The Clerk of the Committee

Veterans Affairs committee  No, not that one.

November 20th, 2007Committee meeting

The Clerk of the Committee

Veterans Affairs committee  Whatever happens, if I'm at the office.... Technically you have until six o'clock to send a motion. If I receive a motion at 5:59 p.m. on my blackberry, I will come back to the office and that motion will be sent out at eight or nine that evening, or however long it takes. I will do that job, and I will send it out.

November 15th, 2007Committee meeting

The Clerk

Veterans Affairs committee  It depends on whom you ask. Some committees do things one way; some do things differently. The other question with this motion is that the 48-hour period is interpreted as two sleeps and not exactly 48 hours. If I receive a notice of motion between five o'clock and six o'clock, I'm not in the office; I will have received it, but I can only send it out the next day.

November 15th, 2007Committee meeting

The Clerk

Veterans Affairs committee  Well, the way I see it personally is that the notice is for members to take notice and study a motion before they discuss it in committee. This motion stems from the House; there, if a member files a motion at six o'clock, the member will have until seven o'clock—till the House adjourns—and the motion will come out the same day, so it really doesn't matter.

November 15th, 2007Committee meeting

The Clerk

Veterans Affairs committee  That's something we—all the clerks of the committees directorate—discussed. The question is—It's up to the committee to decide. Do the 48 hours start when I receive the motion or do the 48 hours start when I send out the motion for your notice? It's up to you to decide.

November 15th, 2007Committee meeting

The Clerk

Veterans Affairs committee  That's right. There is a problem with that. Some other members sit from 9 to 11 on other committees, and that is the case for Mr. Sweet and Mr. Shipley.

November 15th, 2007Committee meeting

The Clerk

Veterans Affairs committee  No. The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs only sits from 11 to 1, which is our block. There are other blocks, and I have the committee block schedule. If you would like, I can hand those out to all the members so they can see what the different options are.
