Criminal Code  My then pregnant wife, who had such an engaged husband during her first pregnancy, now had an emotional zombie in me, unable or unwilling to communicate. I expected these feelings to subside as I left the courthouse on the day the verdict was delivered. I expected to experience a period of re-acclimatization as I re-entered my life, and then I would be fine.

Criminal Code  My then pregnant wife, who had such an engaged husband during her first pregnancy, now had an emotional zombie in me, unable or unwilling to communicate. I expected these feelings to subside as I left the courthouse on the day the verdict was delivered.... My feelings didn't subside. They intensified and deepened.

Industry committee  For example, Robin, you said Canada is different from other countries when it comes to competition. We're also a bit different when it comes to what some people call “zombie companies”. We're keeping companies alive whose business case fundamentals have changed substantially, and maybe it's really not their time to survive. Do you know what I mean? Fail fast, fail cheap, and move on to the next thing and survive.

Health committee  I can tell you that, when my kids play Minecraft, they'll occasionally go on a rampage, killing as many zombies, creepers and skeletons as possible, but the success of both war games and building games serves as a reminder that, while we like to fight, we also have the capacity to energize by acts of creative collaboration.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  There are so many new things that communities, elders and people are not used to dealing with. Young children are walking around and waving their arms in the air, basically in a zombie state. They have scabs all over their faces. We try to walk around to go visit, but in our situation, we have shootings in broad daylight. It's not been a good situation. In terms of enforcement, there's a gap right now between the community and law enforcement.

Health committee  What they have done in Scandinavian countries is to reduce class sizes to have more one-to-one time, redefined spaces for physical activity and other things, which is critical right now, because play and socialization in young children, for example, is vital. You cannot replace it online. My 3-year-old sits at a computer like a zombie. She doesn't really engage with the media. You need some form of engagement that is person to person. We can do it. As a country, we have the ability and the skills. We have some of the best schools in the world.

Finance committee  Federal support, loans and credit have created a false sense of security. Economists have already coined the term "zombie companies". These companies are leveraging federal programs or tapping banks for more credit. Over the next two years, the pandemic will drive Canadian produce companies into bankruptcy.

Status of Women committee  That's the other part of this that is unknown at this point. I think there are a lot of what my colleague would call “zombie businesses” right now that are probably looking like they're still around on paper but are probably pretty much shutting down behind the scenes. Unfortunately, it's difficult at this time, but I would say that the target, really, if we're going to help, is going to be the newer, smaller businesses, which is really where a lot of women find themselves.

Finance committee  However, traditional risk metrics are likely going to make even healthy borrowers appear unhealthy until the recovery is well under way and economic uncertainty has eased. On the business side, we don't want zombie firms, but we also don't want healthy firms with viable business models disappearing. Therefore, some continued government involvement is likely warranted with the big questions being what form it will take and what principle should guide this involvement.

Information & Ethics committee  There are Internet service providers, websites, and even home computers that get taken over by these zombie networks. Hackers have started to create networks of computers that they co-opt to do their bidding. They may have up to a million zombie computers attacking different communities. It really takes the Internet down and bogs it down with traffic and whatnot.

Criminal Code  I know that time is running out quickly, but I said I would comment on some of the positive things in the bill, and I would like to do so. First, there is the elimination of what are called “zombie” provisions of the Criminal Code, which criminalize things that are no longer illegal. These provisions have been found to be unconstitutional and have no place in the Criminal Code.

Criminal Records Act  If a person whose record was suspended were to commit another offence, his or her record would be resurrected. These are like zombie records, coming back from the dead. I would like to hear what my colleague has to say about the impact this could have on marginalized populations.

Fisheries committee  With the recent introduction of the invasive aquatic plant, Eurasian water milfoil, we believe we are on the precipice of a dramatic ecosystem impact in the Saint John River system. Eurasian water milfoil, which can grow so quickly it's called the zombie plant, can completely fill water bodies, to the point where no other plants or fish can use the habitat, and boats are unable to pass through the mat of plants. However, since Eurasian water milfoil was found in the watershed in 2017, there has been virtually no response to this introduction.

Veterans Affairs committee  It took years to get everything back up. It saved my life in that respect. I can be a dad, not a zombie on the couch who doesn't want to do anything—even leave the house. I think it allows me to function better. Is it perfect? No, it's not perfect, but that's my reality. It will never be perfect.

Veterans Affairs committee  From the veterans perspectives and from what I'm hearing from the mouth of the veterans is that, since they have started cannabis, many of them no longer think about suicide. When they were on the pills and the multiple medications, drooling like zombies and not being able to put a thought together, suicide was very, very close.
