Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague from Saanich—Gulf Islands for her very important question. The government has been working towards this from the beginning. All along, our government's priority has been the health and safety of Canadians. We met our objectives through the programs that we implemented.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her important question. Indeed, tourism was one of the hardest-hit sectors and it was one of the first to feel the impact. It will take a long time for it to recover from the economic repercussions of this crisis. From the beginning, our government has been there for the tourism sector, just as it has for all sectors affected by COVID-19, quickly bringing in support measures.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague from Vancouver Kingsway. What happened at the long-term care facilities is indeed unacceptable and our government was there from the start to ensure that situations like that did not happen again, including through the safe restart agreement and a transfer, through that agreement, of $19 billion.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I am very pleased to rise to speak to one of the most important steps for Canadian democracy. The Speech from the Throne lays the foundation for the direction and the objectives of the next parliamentary session, a session that will be particularly important because it marks the national economic recovery, as the country begins to emerge from the first wave of COVID-19.

International Women's Day  Mr. Speaker, for International Women's Day—yes, I said “women”, plural—I would like to highlight the actions of a few women from Sherbrooke who, in the 1970s, helped provide women with the tools needed to shake up our patriarchal society. Laurette de Montigny founded the first shelter for abused women.

Motrec International  Mr. Speaker, like our government, the people of Sherbrooke care about environmentally responsible economic development. That is why we worked with Economic Development Canada to help a business in my riding, Motrec International. Motrec International is an innovative and rapidly growing company that manufactures all-steel electric industrial vehicles.

Tourism Industry  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. The tourism sector has been neglected for too long. Our government believes in the two million people who work in tourism, and it believes in their potential. That is why we have invested over $65 million in our new federal tourism growth strategy.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question. Our government is committed to ensuring that border services earn the trust of the Canadian people, and we are working on strengthening accountability. Bill C-3 will facilitate the safe and efficient flow of people and goods. It goes even further by introducing an oversight body that will allow people to file complaints more easily.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question. As for the rights granted to the commission, I cannot answer that question too specifically. One thing is certain: Our aim in introducing this bill is to strengthen Canadians' confidence and make sure they feel comfortable dealing with border service officers and filing complaints, when circumstance warrant it.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. I think that the government has always sought to establish the best commission and the best organizations possible to meet the needs of all Canadians. Bill C-3 effectively seeks to ensure that people can file complaints, feel safe and rest assured that their rights will be respected by border services officers.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, if we want Canadians to trust their government, we need a government that trusts Canadians. I would add that this position has been repeated many times in the House, and not just when Bill C-98 was introduced. On that note, I would also like to thank the senator who introduced Bill S-205 in 2015.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, thank you for the opportunity to speak to Bill C-3. I am in favour of a complaints and review mechanism for the Canada Border Services Agency, or CBSA. This type of proposal goes to the very heart of our government's core values and objectives. Each minister of the crown has a mandate letter that clearly states: We have committed to an open, honest government that is accountable to Canadians, lives up to the highest ethical standards and applies the utmost care and prudence in the handling of public funds.

Mont Bellevue  Mr. Speaker, very few cities can boast a mountain in their core where people can go downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, hiking, tubing, fat-biking, and so on. In Sherbrooke we are fortunate to have Mont Bellevue. This beautiful mountain is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year but is nowhere near retirement.

House debate  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. As we heard in the House, the government proposed a tax cut, an increase in the basic personal amount for all Canadians. That will put a lot more money in their pockets. What is more, the Canada child benefit has lifted many people out of poverty.
