Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  Since the announcement of the closure, the Iraqi government has demonstrated its willingness to cooperate with EU states, the United States, Iraq's neighbours, and Iran in order to resettle Ashrafi residents outside Iraq. Some 3,400 people reside at the camp, including families with children. A significant portion of the residents who hold dual nationalities have already left Iraq, including nine of eleven Canadians who were repatriated on November 16 and 17.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  I think everybody has seen this, but if you don't mind, I can read it: The threat to the residents of Camp Ashraf is real and it is imminent. Within over a month, these 3,400 unarmed citizens will face a potentially mortal crisis--unless the international community fulfills its own moral and legal obligations. The humanitarian crisis is avoidable and must be avoided at all costs.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  The problem is that when it gets televised, the Iranian intelligence agency is going to work. I'm already fearful that I'm about to lose 3,400 friends and allies, and I don't want to put their names at the top. The rest I've been in the field of combat with. We've taken an IED together. If I ever had a problem with the MeK, it was that they wanted to put themselves between us and danger, and that violated our procedures.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  Colonel Martin, my time is limited, so I want to make sure I get as much as I can on the record. In your opinion, what is going to happen to these 3,400 people when they shut down this camp?

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  We've made a lot of mistakes, and many people have paid the ultimate price for those mistakes. Unless positive steps are taken very quickly, 3,400 residents of Camp Ashraf will be the next to pick up the tab. Thank you for this invitation to speak, and I look forward to your questions.

Safe Streets and Communities Act  According to Statistics Canada, marijuana cultivation offences more than doubled from 1994 to 2004, rising from approximately 3,400 offences in 1994 to 8,000 in 2004. According to a study on marijuana grow operations in British Columbia in 2003, approximately 39% of all reported marijuana cultivation cases, 5,414, were located in B.C.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  I don't know what your reaction would be to that. One of the things that also comes to mind is this. Of the 3,400 at the camp, how many are actually women and children? Do you know, sir?

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  Obviously, I don't know what proceedings you've had with respect to Ashraf up until now, but I will begin by stating that there are approximately 3,400 women and men in Camp Ashraf. They are Iranians, members of an organization called MEK, Mujahideen-e-Khalq, who are opposed to the current Iranian regime and have opposed it consistently.

National Defence  They began their engagement in Afghanistan in 2001, transporting Canadian Forces personnel and equipment in and out of the Kandahar airfield, as well as supporting the ISAF mission brilliantly. They completed more than 3,400 logistical and operational missions successfully and safely over that 10-year period. We welcome them home. We thank them. We congratulate them. They are the best.

Veterans Affairs committee  Through this extension, and through the enlargement of eligibility to recognize those who may have died before the ex gratia program was put in place, we have received 3,400 applications. We expended an additional $25 million through that extension. Overall, close to 5,000 people have received the ex gratia payment, for a total amount of just below $100 million.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  However, this would imply a reduction in average entry level earnings of approximately 7.5% for males and females, roughly $3,400 per year. Australia currently allocates about 70% of all immigrants to the economic class whereas Canada's share is much lower, somewhere between 55% to 60% on average over the last five or six years.

Veterans Affairs committee  As the secretary-general of the Canadian agency, my aim is to carry out the commission’s charter within North, Central and South America, some 16,400 war graves in 3,400 burial grounds in 32 countries. I run essentially a small business that equates more closely to a not-for-profit type of organization rather than a government department. Of course, we are all employees of the commission, not the Government of Canada.

Finance committee  Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline, a Spectra Energy joint venture, continues to deliver natural gas to Atlantic Canada and the U.S. northeast. In total, Spectra employs 3,400 people in Canada and pays close to $300 million in annual taxes in the country. We also have a unique perspective on North American energy issues, as our president and CEO, Greg Ebel, is a Canadian, who was once chief of staff to Deputy Prime Minister Don Mazankowski.

Keeping Canada's Economy and Jobs Growing Act  This compensation also includes severance and termination pay, with workers receiving up to a maximum of $3,400. The WEPP has proven itself as an important program and has provided assistance to a great many people who have been hard hit through losing their jobs out of no fault of their own. Since July 2008, over 40,000 WEPP claimants have received $89.5 million in payments.

Keeping Canada's Economy and Jobs Growing Act  Municipalities are going to be able to use this legislated guaranteed resource as another instrument to manage their municipal affairs. The wage earner protection program provides up to $3,400 in 2011 to workers for unpaid wages, severance or termination. We are helping families with caregiver tax credits. That can be a special burden in the smaller towns of northwestern Ontario.
