Indigenous Affairs  Mr. Speaker, I cannot understand why the government continues to act so much like an opposition and blames everybody else when it is the government of the day and it is the one that can address this situation right now. This pandemic has resulted in people having to wash their hands more frequently, physically distance themselves and has upended northern supply chains.

Indigenous Affairs  Mr. Speaker, the issue of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls is, unfortunately, very close to many people in my riding. Over the past eight years, half of Ontario's identified cases took place in the Kenora region, so I was very disappointed to learn that the government is planning to sit on the results of the final MMIWG report.

Indigenous Affairs  Mr. Speaker, Neskantaga First Nation, in my riding, has been under a boil water advisory for 25 years. Now, because of the shutdown of its water treatment plant, many community members are being forced to evacuate. This is, by all accounts, a public health emergency, and one that could have been prevented if action had been taken sooner.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I think that Canadians have been asking a lot of questions about the government's handling of the pandemic, about rapid testing, about the management of PPE and many different aspects. Does my colleague believe that the government's response to COVID-19 warrants a review?

Economic Development  Mr. Speaker, the member for Sault Ste. Marie announced $800,000 of FedNor funding to the company Skritswap last year. We know this company forwards its mail from Sault Ste. Marie, but that it is actually located in southern Ontario. It also has job opportunities and employees in B.C. and California, of all places.

Lobster Fishery Dispute in Nova Scotia  Mr. Speaker, the member for Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon definitely came at it from a very interesting point of view, being a member from British Columbia and recognizing that he is not an expert on everything happening in Nova Scotia, but also recognizing a bit of a duality and understanding that there are some commonalities with his riding in terms of the industry and the relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous constituents.

Lobster Fishery Dispute in Nova Scotia  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his important insight. We have witnessed recently the terrible acts of violence in Nova Scotia and the RCMP has been involvement. Now people are asking the military to get involved. Many members on this side of the House want to know what it is going to take for the government to get involved to ensure there is a peaceful solution right now and in the longer term as well.

Lobster Fishery Dispute in Nova Scotia  Madam Speaker, we have heard from the government and from this Prime Minister many times that no relationship is more important to the current government, supposedly, that its relationship with indigenous peoples. However, the Liberals have had an opportunity to show that, by addressing some of these long-standing issues and they have failed to do so.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, the member mentioned mental illness quite a bit, however, he did not go into a lot of detail. Does the member believe that if someone's sole underlying condition is mental illness, they should be able to receive MAID?

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, as I mentioned earlier in this debate, unfortunately in a lot of the rural and remote communities and the many indigenous communities in my riding, and I imagine in the hon. member's riding as well, there is not an equitable access to health care services. That includes palliative care, unfortunately, in many circumstances.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to present a petition today that would draw the attention of the House of Commons to the campaign of Uighur birth suppression by the Chinese Communist Party. The signatories to this petition ask that the House of Commons formally acknowledge that Uighurs in China have been subject to genocide and to use Magnitsky sanctions in order to hold those who are committing those crimes to account.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, one of the things the member mentioned was improvements to palliative care. I think it is important to note that northern regions of the country and rural and remote regions, particularly indigenous communities in my riding, are chronically underserved in health care delivery.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, when we talk about trade, as the member mentioned, what is really important to a lot of residents in my riding is the forestry sector. Unfortunately, as we have seen, the government has failed to adequately secure trade agreements that can get our softwood lumber to market and support our forestry sector.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I would invite the member for Winnipeg North to take a drive down the highway to my riding and visit some of the tourism owners and operators in northern Ontario who would most certainly disagree with his statement and the implication that the government was there to support tourism operators.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague from the Bloc Québécois for his good question. I would like to make clear that it is the Liberal government in this situation that has failed to address the concerns put forward by a number of the premiers. It has been abdicating its responsibility from that point of view.
