Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  Our people right now, with the lands that have washed away, basically that's what sustained us. It was about 20% of the whole IR#11, which is basically the river bottoms of that reserve land. It's gone. It's going to cost millions and millions of dollars to protect. Thank you for your time. I appreciate everything that's happening out there in Canada.

Finance committee  However, this all changed when the 2017 federal budget legislated annual alcohol excise duty increases indexed to the consumer price index. Legislated inflation indexation, better known as the excise escalator, raised the ire of major wine-producing nations around the world, prompted a WTO challenge from Australia and led to the pending repeal of the excise exemption through a negotiated settlement to end the trade dispute.

Canada Infrastructure Bank Act  As Edith Loring-Kuhanga, school administrator for Stein Valley Nlakapamux School in Lytton, said, “The extreme temperatures of 49°C-plus leading up to June 30 contributed to the Lytton Creek fire that destroyed the Village of Lytton in 25 minutes and burned many homes and businesses on IR 17, 18 and 22 of Lytton First Nation and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District. Our lives were forever changed on June 30. Nine months later, those who lost their homes continue to be homeless and struggle with high anxiety and PTSD as they continue to reconnect with their families, culture, way of life and the land.”

National Defence committee  This approach could work, because the coalition depends on its members' confidence that they will be protected sufficiently to justify the risks of standing up to Beijing. If they think they'll be left vulnerable and subjected to Beijing's ire, though, they will be much more likely to make the best of a bad situation and cut a deal with Beijing. America's goal in preventing this is absolutely central. Only America is strong enough to stand up directly to China, and Asian countries can really only prudently stand up to China if they know America will be there in force to defend them.

Finance committee  Gallivan, in my opinion, this is still a bargain‑basement agreement, especially when we see that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the federal agency in the United States, demanded that KPMG and its clients provide names, and obtained them. The IRS even threatened KPMG in the U.S. with being classified as a criminal organization if it did not hand over its documents.

Finance committee  I believe KPMG had used a similar scheme in the United States, and the Internal Revenue Service, the IRS, immediately brought out the heavy artillery. It really didn't work that way in Canada. Could you comment on this and give us some possible avenues of solution that could be followed by the Canada Revenue Agency, the minister or the government?

Finance committee  They all have problems with people who hide money. Obviously the U.S. put more money into the IRS. Their penalties are much more severe than what we have here. The European Union tries, as a whole. All the countries of the union try, but obviously each country individually has the same problem, because they cannot find what is hidden.

Business of Supply  Whether physically in the House or in their constituencies, where a vast majority of our Liberal members are because of the virtual Parliament situation, members are able to gauge what their constituents are telling them and can funnel that information back to where decisions are made. When I look at the motion before us today and what ir asks the government to do, I believe the Conservatives are somewhat misguided. I can only hope that other opposition parties will see that and not vote in favour of it. We could have been talking about many things.

Natural Resources committee  Because offshore work is so remote, workers are not always protected by the intersection of workplace occupational health and safety inspectors who may be hours or days away. The offshore workplace is one where the internal responsibility system, or IRS, must be strong. We believe that the amendments we are proposing to the regulation enhance the IRS by giving the workplace joint health and occupational...and the worker representatives more tools to work with helping employers solve sometimes very complex safety issues while protecting—

Finance committee  Because you are in Canada. In the U.S., when KPMG did the same thing, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the equivalent of the Canada Revenue Agency, filed criminal charges against KPMG's executives and the company, even threatening to prosecute it as a criminal organization, which would have resulted in its dissolution.

United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act  While my friends on the political left like to assume that their opposition to natural resource development aligns them with the wishes of indigenous people, they are increasingly offside with the wishes of indigenous people in areas where resource development is taking place. The anti-development policies of this government are increasingly raising the ire of indigenous people and indigenous proponents of resource development projects, such as those seeking the construction of the Eagle Spirit pipeline, blocked by Bill C-48, or those indigenous people in the Arctic who were not consulted at all when the Prime Minister brought in a ban on drilling.

Information & Ethics committee  For you to tell us you're really shocked, and this only ever happened once, even though we know you took down at least two of his plaques.... He has asked for a police investigation. He has asked for the IRS to investigate you. He has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. Are you telling Reed Cowan, and all the other donors across this country and across North America, that this velcro plaque scheme that your staff bragged about only happened twice?
