Petitions  Madam Speaker, I am rising to present e-petition 3698 to the Minister of Health, a petition initiated by residents of Saint-Laurent and Canada. Camille Nicola Isaacs from Saint-Laurent, Parsa Famili and Fati Davoudi basically say that whereas dementia costs in Canada were estimated at $12 billion in 2020 and projected to reach $16.6 billion by 2031, and total out-of-pocket costs paid by caregivers were an estimated $1.4 billion in 2016 and projected to rise to nearly $2.4 billion in 2031, the growth in the number of persons diagnosed and living with dementia represents an unsustainable trajectory, with cases forecasted to amount to nearly one million by 2033, and disease prevention and health protection strategies must be a focus to reduce this trend.

I know that our government has spoken about commitments to further help housing become affordable in Canada, so I look forward to working with the member on this point.

Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021  Madam Speaker, this was introduced in the fall. It is the fall economic statement and today, May 3, we are still debating this in order to get help back to Canadians who need it. Yes, definitely: there has been a delay. We have been trying to get this legislation debated for months and we are still here today because of the Conservatives.

Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021  Madam Speaker, we are here today to debate Bill C‑8, which contains very important measures to give my constituents the help they need during the pandemic. I am thinking of the teachers in my riding who will receive a tax credit for changes to their work over the past two years.

Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021  Madam Speaker, I will be sharing my time with the member for Kings—Hants. It is a pleasure to rise to speak to Bill C-8 today. The government knows that elevated inflation and rising gas prices are leading Canadians to worry about the cost of living as the pandemic continues to affect our everyday lives.

Natalie Agustin  Mr. Speaker, on March 22, 2022, the world lost a strong and inspirational young woman to stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Throughout her nine-year battle with cancer, Nalie experienced some of the darkest times that a human being can possibly face, and yet she always made room for light, inspiring so many others to do the same.

Sport  Mr. Speaker, earlier this week, the Minister of Sport announced the appointment of Canada's first sport integrity commissioner. The goal is to eliminate the abusive, inappropriate and unacceptable conduct that is too often part of Canadian sport. Abuse has a significant negative impact on our athletes' development, and the appointment of a person of integrity like former athlete Sarah-Ève Pelletier will go a long way toward improving the situation.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, like many Canadians, I am proud of our Canadian Armed Forces, and I want them to have the equipment they need to do the tough jobs we ask them to do. That is why I was pleased that our government announced its intention to begin the final negotiations for the purchase of 88 F-35 fighter jets.

Ukraine  Mr. Speaker, the situation in Ukraine is getting worse by the day. For over a week now, Ukrainians in Ukraine have been living in a war zone, fearing for their lives as missiles and bombs drop down on civilians. Russia's unprovoked attack on Ukraine has turned into a humanitarian crisis and has put Europe in a more vulnerable position than ever since the Second World War.

Health  Mr. Speaker, the last two years of this pandemic have underscored the importance of investing in domestic manufacturing of vaccines and personal protective equipment and, therefore, supporting science and research in Canada. It is also important to provide Canadians with options, which is why I am pleased to rise in the House today to ask about the first Canadian‑made, plant‑based COVID‑19 vaccine, the Medicago vaccine, which was approved by Health Canada on February 24.
