Canada—Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, that is why it is so important that we pass this bill to get it to committee quickly to do the hard work with stakeholders and make sure we get it right. There is a tremendous opportunity. We must strike now and make this happen so that Atlantic Canada and our great nation receive the benefits with millions of dollars of investment and good jobs.

However, there is, once again, misinformation on what this is about. In my home province of Alberta, Premier Smith and the UCP government have put out a moratorium, which is preventing $33 billion in investment.

Canada—Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, this bill is about working together with the governments in Atlantic Canada, with Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador, to make sure we are bringing forward opportunities to have more renewable energy. The world is seeing a massive transition. There is up to $1 trillion of investment that is going to come forward with renewables and through wind energy.

An important part of the work we do is working with and alongside indigenous communities across Canada. Working with the provincial governments in Atlantic Canada, it is going to be at the forefront of the work that is done to consult and work alongside indigenous communities.

Canada—Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I appreciate the opportunity to debate Bill C-49 in the House today. Before I begin, I would like to note that we are standing on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabe nation. There is immense potential for offshore renewables, including the offshore wind industry in Newfoundland and Labrador and in Nova Scotia.

Canada—Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, my Conservative colleagues do not like when I say “reliable and affordable electricity” because they want to increase electricity rates for Canadians. We are going to bring immense economic opportunity and provide the world with the hydrogen it needs. According to the Public Policy Forum's new report published today, the installation and maintenance of massive onshore wind generation will create jobs and incomes at high levels of intensity for several decades during build-out, and continuing indefinitely with ongoing maintenance and replacement activity.

Points of Order  Mr. Speaker, on this point of order, I want to bring to the attention of the House that yesterday, the Conservative deputy whip, after the vote, opposed members' being able to register their vote in this fashion. It was the Conservative deputy whip who opposed others, so I believe the members of the Conservative Party should have a conversation.

Affordable Housing and Groceries Act  Madam Speaker, I do not really agree with many of my colleague's statements on I think it was the Conservatives' building bureaucracies act and the lack of housing bill. Calgary City Council voted in favour of the housing task force recommendations. Does the Conservative Party support Calgary's housing task force recommendations?

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, the hon. member for Calgary Heritage also left his seat while the vote was under way. I think we should allow the votes of both members to count and not play these petty politics.

Chris Snow  Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to and commemorate the life of a remarkable Calgarian, Chris Snow. With his unwavering courage in the face of adversity and dedication to the Calgary Flames, Chris has been an inspiration to countless others and has left a lasting impact on our hearts.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, in my riding and across this country, companies are in a race to deploy cutting-edge technologies that deliver the energy we need while driving down emissions and costs. This is a win-win-win, because Albertan workers are using their expertise to build projects that deploy green, affordable and reliable energy to households, and the Government of Canada is investing in them.

World Contraception Day  Mr. Speaker, today is World Contraception Day. Last week, I hosted an info session about the merits of access to contraception. We were joined by very special speakers, including Dr. Rupinder Toor from northeast Calgary, Dr. Wendy Norman, Dr. Amanda Black, Lee Allison Clark and Frédérique Chabot.

Allegations Against Government of India  Madam Chair, I thank the hon. member for Port Moody—Coquitlam for her speech. The member talked about democracy. Mr. Nijjar was the president of the Sikh gurdwara in Surrey, democratically elected. I saw Conservative members stand in solidarity at the Regina Nagar Kirtan parade.

Allegations Against Government of India  Madam Chair, I have been reflecting on and talking to many of my constituency members about the murder or assassination that happened at the gurdwara, the Sikh temple of worship. It is appalling to see that Conservatives will come to the temple, will walk with us in solidarity in our Nagar Kirtan parade, but today cannot stand in solidarity with Canadians in this horrific crime.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, countries around the world are racing to seize the extraordinary economic opportunities that come with building a low-carbon economy, investing in clean energy, and scaling new technologies. We must ensure that Canadian workers are equipped with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time.
