Supply  As we have shown from the beginning, sovereignists care about tax fairness, and I suppose that in a sovereign Quebec such treatment would be called into question. The same goes for the 3,400 Canadians who did not pay a cent of income tax to the federal treasury last year, even though they had a very high income. I think that we would also try to correct that effectively.

Peacekeeping  One of the points I want to raise today is that there is an ongoing commitment of the armed forces. We have about 3,400 people actually deployed, not counting what we perhaps send to Haiti and which we can discuss in the next few weeks. With a whole group of people waiting to go, a whole group of people just coming back, and those who are being deployed at the moment, we are getting somewhat stretched.

Terry Fox Run  Speaker, I would like to draw the attention of my colleagues in this House to the 14th Terry Fox Run which was held on Sunday, September 18. At 3,400 different sites across Canada on Sunday, hundreds of thousands of people took part in the event which raised a total of $8.5 million in 40 countries worldwide last year and is expected to raise more this year.

Sahtu Dene And Metis Land Claim Settlement Act  I wonder if they will continue to exist even though their jobs have been taken over by someone else. The department of Indian affairs has a budget of about $5 billion and has a staff of 3,400 people. In this year's estimates salaries and contributions to employee plans amount to $134.4 million. This works out to an average salary of approximately $40,000. Will this department with a huge budget and a large staff continue to exist as we set up another bureaucracy?

Social Security System  This is the highest proportion of households in need compared to the national average of 12 per cent. We need 3,400 units in the north under the severest conditions. We have probably recorded the coldest month of January in Ottawa. It is minus 17 point something. Think of how cold it must be in the north.

Speech From The Throne  At the start of my career my medical malpractice premiums were $300. At this point in my medical career they are up to $3,400. I cannot say what engine drives medical costs like the threat of suits in Canada. Many tests are ordered and X-rays are ordered just to be on the safe side. In my view this is a spot where the federal government could step in.
