Science  Mr. Speaker, in Toronto and across Canada the organization Ladies Learning Code is working to promote digital literacy and technology skills, like writing computer codes, specifically for Canadian women and girls. Ladies Learning Code wants more women leaders in the tech industry.

Canadian Human Rights Act  Mr. Speaker, at this point, we are setting a legislative framework within the Canadian Human Rights Act to ensure that we have the right protections there. Within our Criminal Code, the sentencing stage will take into account bias as an aggravating factor to prevent the propagation of hate propaganda.

Canadian Human Rights Act  Our government made the tabling of this bill a priority very early on in our first session in Parliament. My colleague is correct. It has taken a very long time to get to where we are now. However, we are here. Our government has tabled this bill. I have heard very hopeful comments across the way.

Canadian Human Rights Act  Mr. Speaker, as my colleague has mentioned, the parliamentary secretary for Canadian heritage is now the special adviser on LGBTQ2 issues. Having someone who will be an outreach and point person is an important signal and an opportunity to help this government make sure we do what we have promised to do, which is create a safe and welcoming country where we take into account diverse perspectives.

Canadian Human Rights Act  Mr. Speaker, it is an honour today to speak in support of Bill C-16, an act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code, particularly because today we are on the eve of the Transgender Day of Remembrance, which is Sunday, November 20. It is a day that gives us a chance to remember and reflect upon the discrimination that has been suffered and continues to be suffered in our country by the transgender community but also to give strength and think about how we go forward.

Canadian Human Rights Act  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague from across the way for what was a wonderful and impassioned discussion about the bill, about why it is so important, and to go through her journey about the bill. The member has set out very clearly why it was so important that we have this legislation.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 2  Madam Speaker, some people in this place may not know that I love to cycle. One of the things I have been very happy to see is investments in active transportation. It is one of my main modes of transportation around the city. I have seen investments in bike share, bike trails, bike safety, and other forms of active transportation.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 2  Madam Speaker, it was quite wonderful to hear what my friend had to say about the past year, and what a year it has been. When I say this, it is because all of us give up a lot to be here. We take time away from our loved ones. Today I am particularly heartbroken because I am missing Halloween with my family.

Canada Business Corporations Act  Madam Speaker, I was happy to hear this presentation, and to hear the minister speak about requiring comply or explain in boards of directors. Just today, I was at a lunch where we talked about the media coverage of women in sport. One of the issues that came up was that at a board of directors meeting, if there are not that many women present, and they are discussing what kind of coverage they should have of women in sport, the discussion might be quite different if there are more women sitting at the table and participating in that discussion.

World Food Day  Mr. Speaker, this weekend I marked World Food Day. This day helps raise awareness and acts as a call to action on hunger and food policy. It also reminds us that we must ensure food security and nutrition for all Canadians. To celebrate this event in my riding of Toronto—Danforth, I was at the Leslieville Farmers' Market to speak to my constituents about food issues and what concerns them.

Canadian Human Rights Act  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my friend for really providing so many thoughtful comments on this issue. I was looking at a quote from somebody in my community who was quoted in Toronto Life. She writes: ....By the age of about eight, I knew exactly who I was. The words played in my head on a perpetual loop: “You're a girl, you're a girl, you're a girl.”

Persons with Disabilities  Mr. Speaker, in September, Canada watched with excitement as our paralympians made history with their performances in Rio. Our high-level athletes are among the best in the world, but when they get home they still face accessibility challenges across the country. Would the Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities share with the House some of her vision and what she hopes to achieve with Canada's accessibility legislation?

Standing Orders and Procedure  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the member for his questions and comments. What I am trying to do is to find a way for the House to become more efficient. Perhaps it is not about the number of questions. We can discuss that. However, I do not think that Canadians want to see the same questions being asked and the same answers being given for a half an hour.

Standing Orders and Procedure  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my friend for all the nice things he said. It is true, and the question comes as no surprise. Things get a little complicated if we give the Speaker the power to decide if it is exactly the same question or if it is the correct answer or the same answer.

Standing Orders and Procedure  Mr. Speaker, it has been almost a year since I had the privilege to start participating in debate in this place. I recall fondly the day of my swearing in last fall. I received a pin after I was sworn in, and I received a very large green book of over 1,000 pages of procedural rules.
