The Budget  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for her very detailed question. She asked me what we are going to do for farmers. I spoke a little about this already. This morning, when I spoke with Ontario and Quebec farmers, they were very pleased to see that we have taken steps to invest in science in order to support them.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, I thank my friend for expressing concern and interest in the Canada child benefit and the need to support our families across the country, because that is what the budget is about. We have been quite clear about the fact that the Canada child benefit is going to be a steady source of money for families in greater need.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, I rise today to speak to budget 2016. This budget aims to help Canadians put themselves on the best footing to build for the future. We talk a great deal about building infrastructure, but this budget goes further. It is about building communities and a strong base for the future of our country.

Status of Women  Mr. Speaker, last month we celebrated International Women's Day. Although that important day has passed, we must remain vigilant and remember that women and children across Canada are disproportionately affected by domestic violence. Could the hon. Minister of Status of Women please advise the House of the steps her department is taking to ensure that women and their children fleeing intimate partner violence are able to find shelters and other services to help them rebuild their lives?

Greek Independence Day  Mr. Speaker, I want to start by wishing my daughter Phoebe a happy birthday. She turns 11 today. I also rise today to talk about Greek Independence Day, an important event in my riding. Tomorrow, March 25, marks the 195th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence. In my community of Toronto—Danforth, Greek Canadians make up a large portion of the residents and business owners.

Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, I want to extend my best wishes to my colleague on the birth of his granddaughter. My colleague explained very well how these changes will help middle-class families. However, can he tell us what his constituents are saying about all this?

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, there has been a very thorough discussion about the prospects for expanding the Toronto island Billy Bishop airport. In fact, what we have seen is that the community is engaged in city building. We have an international airport at Pearson. As I stated earlier, I take no issue with the current configuration of the Billy Bishop airport.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the hon. member for Spadina—Fort York for asking that question because it hits on exactly what I am speaking about. There is a city building exercise that is being done at the waterfront. We have invested heavily already in the waterfront. We have seen wonderful development.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, what is important to take into account when we are looking at this is that there is an important natural habitat for wildlife in the vicinity of this airport, and that is part of what we include as a city. A city is not just buildings. Therefore, it is very important that we consider the impacts to the natural habitats, as we consider our future plans for development in the city and when we consider ideas such as what has been proposed in this opposition motion of expanding the island airport.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I rise today to speak to the opposition's motion. However, I would like to begin by wishing everyone a happy International Women's Day. I would like to recognize all of the women in the House, all of the women members of Parliament from all parties, the women who work in our offices, the women who support the House, and the women who work in security.

Canadian Heritage  Mr. Speaker, Canada is preparing to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation. In her mandate letter, the hon. Minister of Canadian Heritage was given the task of championing government-wide efforts to celebrate this important anniversary. Could the minister share with this House some of the steps her department is taking to get ready for Canada's sesquicentennial?

Students in Toronto—Danforth  Mr. Speaker, since the new year began, many new Canadians have been arriving in our community from Syria, and students in my riding of Toronto—Danforth have been helping out. Canada is a welcoming country, and Canadians are warm-hearted. That is why students in grade schools across my riding have been crafting wonderful welcome to Canada cards for their neighbours.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, it has been wonderful to hear all of the speakers today. There is great support in the House for gender parity and the pay equity issue in the motion before us. I have heard some concerns from my friends across the aisle in the Conservative opposition about some of the wording in what I believe is paragraph (c).

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for her presentation about gender equity and parity. I particularly like the part where she suggested that we value all of our roles as women. In my own experience, as someone who practised law for a number years and then chose to raise my family for a few years, I understand all of those roles.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her review of the history and for setting out what some of the problems are for women and pay equity. We heard from the Minister of Status of Women earlier today. She talked about our commitment to applying gender-based analysis going forward across all areas of government and all levels of government to improve the equity of women.
