Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, I am grateful for the opportunity to explain to the hon. member for Calgary Rocky Ridge that putting a price on pollution is at the centre of our government's plan to fight climate change and to curb its devastating effects on our communities and our economy. The negative impacts of climate change are very real.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, my colleague said she is surprised to see the Liberals standing up for climate action. The fact remains that our government has invested more than any other government in recent years. Over $100 billion has been invested in the fight against climate change. This amount alone is very tangible proof of our commitment and our willingness to take action.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, there are two things on which I completely agree with my colleague: the fact that urgent action is needed and the fact that we have invested money and must continue to do so. The crisis is here now. The Conservatives' lack of a plan is certainly not the solution.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, we obviously recognize the actions being taken across Canada. Right now, these are things that we need to do. The planet is in dire straits, so the more we do, the better. I heard the member for Lévis—Lotbinière talk about his newborn grandchild, and I congratulate him.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I will be sharing my time with my esteemed colleague, the hon. member for Saanich—Gulf Islands. I am pleased to take part today in this debate on a subject of great importance for the future of our country. Once again, this motion from our colleagues in the official opposition makes it clear that they do not see the urgency of taking action on climate change.

Questions on the Order Paper  Mr. Speaker, the Government of Canada is investing over $27 billion over five years to build a Canada-wide early learning and child care, or ELCC, system, ensuring all families have access to inclusive and affordable regulated child care, no matter where they live. Canada-wide ELCC agreements have been signed with all provinces and territories, or PTs, including an asymmetrical agreement with Quebec, to reduce fees to an average of $10 a day and support the creation of over 250,000 spaces nationwide by March 2026.

Chemika Mamode and Patrick Rahimaly  Mr. Speaker, there are people whose light we hope will never be dimmed. Two of those people are Chemika Mamode and Patrick Rahimaly, a Sherbrooke couple I would like to pay tribute to today. Originally from Madagascar, they worked hard to become pharmacy owners in Sherbrooke's east end, where they served our community for 28 years.

58th Quebec Games  Mr. Speaker, from March 1 to 9, Sherbrooke will host 2,500 young athletes aged 12 to 17 from 19 regions of Quebec for the 58th Quebec Winter Games. Although Sherbrooke hosted the summer games in 1977 and again in 1995, this is the first time it will host the winter games. A major provincial sporting event like this requires a great deal of organization.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Madam Speaker, my colleague's question is rather strange given the many years of experience he has as an MP. He is well aware that there can be many discussions between members of the House of Commons and senators during the amendment process. In this case, I think that the outcome has been very positive.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Madam Speaker, I sincerely thank my colleague for his question. When Quebec implemented the day care program, it was a major societal change. I have three wonderful boys, and my children have benefited from these highly professional day care services that offer both incredible support and outstanding educational environments.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for this important question Of course, a day care system like this cannot work if we do not have a qualified, professional workforce to provide the services. We know that these people work extremely hard. I was in Edmonton recently, where I was able to meet people who work in the field and it was clear to us that this is a major challenge.
