Privacy  Madam Speaker, businesses' use of facial recognition technology is worrisome. Canadians have the right to go about their business, enter stores and work without being constantly spied on. This brings up some serious questions about how these companies can use our biometric data.

Privacy  Madam Speaker, Clearview AI, a leader in facial recognition technology whose services are used by police, has revealed that it suffered a data breach. That is our personal biometric data. Companies today are hoping to sell this kind of technology to private corporations so they can target the right clients, spy on their behaviour and profile them.

Emergency Debate  Mr. Speaker, that is like asking me if I agree with apple pie. It may not be my favourite kind of pie, but I am not against it. I cannot be against intelligent economic development and the transition to green energy. Of course I agree with those things. However, we need to take steps that will enable us to meet our targets.

Emergency Debate  Mr. Speaker, my colleague seems to be forgetting that Alberta is still part of Canada and that Canada is still part of the world. If Alberta lived under a bell jar and it alone were affected by the impact of the megatonnes of CO2 that it produces, perhaps we would not hear that question as often and perhaps Alberta would be less happy to be living in these circumstances.

Emergency Debate  Mr. Speaker, a bit like my colleague, I too am wondering about the need to hold an emergency debate tonight regarding a decision made by an independent company. To explain my point a little further, I would like to talk about a mine project. I would like to tell the story of a mine project dedicated to producing 100,000 barrels of oil a day.

Temporary Foreign Workers  Mr. Speaker, there is a serious labour shortage in Quebec. Businesses are turning down contracts because they do not have the staff to increase production. Farmers are sick with worry every year. They do not know if they will have workers in time for the harvest. That is supposedly the purpose of the temporary foreign worker program, but the process is so burdensome, slow and rigid that it does not work.

Temporary Foreign Workers  Mr. Speaker, the impact assessment required by the government takes forever. It is a lengthy, burdensome and unnecessarily rigid process, and above all, it is very expensive. Spring is around the corner. Then comes summer and our agricultural producers will need workers in the field, as they do every year.

Black History Month  Mr. Speaker, as we celebrate Black History Month, I rise today with a message from Marjorie Villefranche, the executive director of Maison d'Haïti: We, the women of African descent, want to be heard because we believe that racism and discrimination should no longer exist in 2020.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, my colleague from Louis-Saint-Laurent reminded us that Bill C-3 pertains to the handling of complaints within the Canada Border Services Agency, or CBSA. However, he then went on to speak for 10 minutes about irregular migrants who cross the border at Roxham Road.

Employment Insurance  Madam Speaker, I would ask you to consult Standing Order 10 and note 51 on page 319 of House of Commons Procedure and Practice, which allows the Chair to call not only a member but also the entire House to order. When I asked my question, you allowed me to finish, but no former call to order was made.

Natural Resources  Madam Speaker, as I was saying, the Liberal member for Beaches—East York said that if the government were truly committed to net zero and to science, cabinet should have no trouble saying no to Teck Frontier. I agree with the member for Beaches—East York. Does the government agree with him too?

Natural Resources  Madam Speaker, speaking of Trans Mountain, the CEO himself just announced that the cost of building the pipeline has almost doubled, rising to nearly $13 billion. Factoring in the purchase price, we have now had about $18 billion stolen from us to pollute the planet. Is this how the government intends to achieve net zero by 2050?

Natural Resources  Madam Speaker, the Teck Frontier project is not compatible with fighting climate change. As the parliamentary secretary for science said, the government has made a clear commitment to achieving net zero by 2050, and both his fellow Canadians and his grandchildren expect the government to meet that target.
