Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Madam Speaker, today, while we are discussing the Senate amendment to Bill C-35, I would like to emphasize to my colleagues and, of course, to all Canadians that this bill is a significant and truly historic piece of legislation. It follows through on the federal government's commitment to families across the country.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his two questions. I would also like to acknowledge his exemplary and always highly professional work on this issue. Having sat in on several meetings of the Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying, I have personally witnessed his passion for this subject.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for the great discussion that we had on this subject recently. I agree with him. That is what Bill C-62 is for. This is a very controversial subject. Like my other colleagues, I get letters from various institutions and groups that show that there are differing opinions in our society about people whose only underlying medical condition is mental illness.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, with all due respect, this question demonstrates that the Conservatives are clearly not here to listen to Canadians. I think it makes sense for our laws to adapt to the population's needs. That is particularly true in Quebec, which is even prepared to open up the right to advance requests.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to have the opportunity to rise in the House this evening in support of Bill C-62. I will note, in particular, the government's commitment to respecting people's autonomy and personal choices, while supporting and protecting Canadians living with mental illness who may be vulnerable.

Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Week  Mr. Speaker, on the occasion of Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Week, I would like to raise awareness among Canadians of the importance of understanding that their sexual health is merely an aspect of their general health. We must also continue to defend women's family planning and reproductive rights.

Health  Mr. Speaker, of course, our hearts go out to the people of Belleville impacted by this crisis and their loved ones. We agree with the mayor that this is horrible. The Minister of Mental Health and Addictions has spoken with Mayor Ellis to discuss how we can work together alongside the Government of Ontario, guided by our compassionate and comprehensive approach.

Suzanne‑Marie Landry  Mr. Speaker, when I think about major artistic events in Sherbrooke, the name Suzanne‑Marie Landry is one of the first that springs to mind. For the past 10 years, Ms. Landry has been general and artistic director of Théatre Granada, a mainstay of Sherbrooke's heritage, and has also been involved in creating Sherblues & Folk and collaborating on most of the major festivals and events in Sherbrooke.

Suicide Prevention Week  Mr. Speaker, this week is Suicide Prevention Week in Quebec. It is a time to remember those who have sadly taken their own lives, but, most of all, to remember the importance of fast access to crisis lines. This year's theme, “Prevention is Better Than Death”, encourages people to speak up about suicide, despite any fear or discomfort they may feel.

Health  Madam Speaker, Conservatives are trying to spread fear and confusion. Here are the facts: No kids have been prescribed fentanyl in B.C. Under the guidelines, there are additional precautions in place when it comes to prescribing to minors. The most important relationship in managing one's health is with a health care provider.

Health  Mr. Speaker, prescribed safe supply is a valued intervention and a necessary life-saving intervention. It helps connect to social supports, and it is part of the continuum of care. We take the safety of all Canadians seriously, and we will continue to approach the toxic drugs and overdose crisis from both a public health and a public safety perspective.

Families, Children and Social Development  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for that important question. We know that many people are struggling financially, and that is why we have programs like the Canada child benefit, which was specifically designed to support those who need it most. The Canada child benefit has helped lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty since 2016 and it is indexed to the cost of living.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I would like to know what my colleague opposite would say to Equiterre, a highly respected environmental organization, which states that, according to economists, putting a price on pollution is one of the most effective ways of curbing emissions, but that it is being threatened by the Conservatives, with their false promises of putting large sums of money back into taxpayers' pockets.

Wishes for the New Year  Mr. Speaker, as the year begins, I want to wish everyone in Sherbrooke a happy new year. I wish them a year of opportunities, a year of kindness to preserve our sense of safety, a year of good health. I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone in my team who, day after day, endeavour to meet the needs of the public with skill and compassion as they support me in every aspect of my work.

Health  Madam Speaker, I totally agree with the member. We continued this strategy by implementing the 988 suicide prevention line on November 30. That line has been very successful so far. It was receiving calls within the first few hours. Staff are well trained and ready to respond to help Canadians in these most difficult situations.
