Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I fail to see how the example given by the member opposite relates to Bill C-7. What I am saying is that the relationship between patients and their practitioners is one that should be based on trust and clear communication and that health care providers should always do their very best to provide that type of compassionate care to their patients, and to discuss the matter as necessary and refer individuals to specialists in the particular area.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to rise today to discuss Bill C-7, an act to amend the Criminal Code in relation to medical assistance in dying, or MAID. As a physician, I took a keen interest when Parliament passed federal legislation in June 2016 to allow eligible Canadian adults to request medical assistance in dying.

Community Support in Markham—Stouffville  Mr. Speaker, throughout the pandemic, organizations in my riding of Markham—Stouffville have stepped up to support our community. Stouffville's Royal Canadian Legion fundraised over $10,000 so it can continue to provide services to local seniors and veterans, including virtual services to reduce social isolation and the resulting depression.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, it will presumably be addressed by the board of investigation looking into this area with respect to the training requirements in relation to those caseworkers who look at the conditions of parole, day parole and so on. From my point of view, the safety of women is absolutely paramount, whether they be sex workers or not.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I am not a member of that standing committee, so I cannot commit my colleagues to what they will decide. I am hopeful there will be good debates at the committee and a successful path forward will be established by all members.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, as I understand it, there is a board of investigation that is conducting a very thorough review of this case. It has been announced by the minister. I think that is entirely appropriate. In addition, the motion does speak to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security conducting hearings into the matter.

Women and Gender Equality  Mr. Speaker, it is truly an honour to rise in the House to ask a question on behalf of the constituents of my great riding of Markham—Stouffville. Today, December 10, marks the last day of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. Over those 16 days, we reflected on the lives of the survivors of gender-based violence and the lives of those we have lost.

Supplementary Estimates (A), 2019-20  Mr. Chair, it is certainly a pleasure to stand in this House for the first time. Millions of Canadians use Canada's roads every day, and safety on those roads is of prime importance to everyone. Could the government update the House on how it contributes to improving the safety of roadways, road users and motor vehicles in Canada to create a consistent national safety code framework across all jurisdictions?
