Finance  Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives have always wanted to reduce taxes for the wealthiest Canadians and make life more difficult for everyone else, for the middle class and people with lower incomes. That is what they have always voted for. That includes voting against the Canada child benefit in 2016.

Finance  Mr. Speaker, my esteemed colleague is putting “homes” and “Leader of the Opposition” in the same sentence. What it means, when we put the two together, is six affordable housing units built across the country during the entire term when the Leader of the Opposition, who is also the leader of insults, was the housing minister.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, one, two, three, four, five, six. That is the number of affordable housing units built by the insulting Conservative leader when he was the minister responsible for housing. There are several projects in my colleague's riding of Montmagny—L'Islet—Kamouraska—Rivière-du-Loup alone, but a couple that spring to mind are Habitations au Fil du Fleuve and Villa Rose des vents.

Public Services and Procurement  Mr. Speaker, taking care of Canadians is exactly what we need to do, on this side of the House, certainly, through proper management of procurement exercises with the types of things and measures that we have announced in the last few weeks and months but also looking after the needs of Canadians with important investments in housing that we have made.

Public Services and Procurement  Mr. Speaker, I have already answered this question in English. I can provide a similar answer in French. Taking care of Canadians is exactly what we are doing, while ensuring that the Canadian government's procurement system is efficient, fair and transparent, based on the new rules we have put in place over the past few months, for one.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, I am very pleased to see that my colleague knows that we are indeed doing much more than his Conservative leader, his insulting leader, did during his term as housing minister. I would like to highlight another project in his riding, in addition to the one he mentioned: the Envole-toi project.

Finance  Mr. Speaker, one, two, three, four, five, six affordable housing units. That is what the Conservative leader built when he was housing minister. Compare that to the 8,000 housing units that we are building with the partnership and leadership of the Government of Quebec and the municipalities.

Public Services and Procurement  Mr. Speaker, as our colleague, the Minister of Public Safety, has said repeatedly, repeating falsehoods does not make those falsehoods true. What the members opposite should know, however, is that the Auditor General tabled an important report just a few weeks ago, which found that rules were not followed by a few public servants.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the member is correct to raise the importance of investing in drinking water infrastructure, waste water treatment and many other things. That is why, just a few days ago, we announced an investment of an additional $6 billion to support municipalities in building the infrastructure that will help us in Quebec, for one, to build the 8,000 housing units that we have already planned with the Quebec government.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the member is quite right to refer to the Conservative leader as an insulting leader. It is true that he insulted all Quebec municipalities, including the people of Quebec City. It is also true that just a few weeks ago, with the leadership of Quebec City, we announced the construction of 324 affordable housing units.

Intergovernmental Affairs  Mr. Speaker, minding our own business means investing in child care, investing in housing, investing in high-speed Internet. It also means investing to make sure that children in my colleague's riding go to school on a full stomach. That is why, last week, we announced an investment that will help 400,000 children, including several hundred in my colleague's riding, go to school on a full stomach so that they can learn and reach their full potential.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, I am very pleased to hear my colleague’s question, which once again shows the contrast between this government and the previous one. In 2017, we put in place the first national housing strategy in this country’s history, which stands in stark contrast with what the Conservative leader did when he was housing minister.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, we have already talked about the Conservative leader's six housing units. Now I want to talk about the 8,000 housing units that will be built with the leadership and partnership of the Quebec government and Quebec municipalities. The member for Salaberry—Suroît is surely already familiar with the Maison Péladeau project in her riding, with 48 affordable, accessible housing units that are also adapted to climate change.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, I understand that the Bloc Québécois may not like the idea of co-operating with the Quebec government. However, a scant few weeks ago we signed an agreement to build 8,000 affordable housing units, which represents the largest investment in affordable housing ever seen in the history of Quebec.

Intergovernmental Relations  Mr. Speaker, during his entire tenure, six affordable housing units were built for the entire country when the opposition leader was the minister responsible for housing. With the collaboration of the Government of Quebec and the leadership of Quebec's municipalities, 8,000 affordable housing units will be built over the next few months.
