Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I appreciated hearing the speech from my hon. colleague. Given that pharmacare and dental care are already matters that will be engaged directly in some manner in this Parliament, I am wondering how taking away this basic deduction from higher-income people will actually help lower-income people.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, many in this debate have acknowledged that this is fundamentally a problem for the Wet'suwet'en nation to resolve. However, in this motion, the Conservatives have taken a strong position on one side of the question while characterizing the other side as radical extremists exploiting divisions in the community.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I absolutely agree that the criteria for choosing members of such a panel should be strictly merit-based. It should be irrespective of any political affiliation. It should not exclude people for being members on the basis of any particular affiliation, but should be entirely merit-based.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, in the circumstances, we do not know all of the facts yet. It is very important that we ascertain all of the facts very carefully before we make any judgements or draw any conclusions. That is the whole purpose of the board of investigation that is going to take place.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I do not think it is helpful to speculate on the outcome of the investigation. We will learn what the investigation has to tell us. Just as a general practice, going forward, it is always good to keep an eye on our processes and practices to make sure they deliver the outcomes that we want from them.

Indigenous Affairs  Mr. Speaker, as it is my first time rising in this Parliament, I would like to thank my family for their unfailing support, my team for its extraordinary hard work and the people of Coquitlam—Port Coquitlam for once again returning me to this distinguished place. Indigenous peoples have a right of self-determination, yet there are many barriers remaining that prevent them from accessing this right.

Mary Steinhauser  Mr. Speaker, I stand today to recognize Mary Steinhauser, a fallen Canadian prison classification officer. She was a nurse, social worker and trailblazer in her approach to inmate rehabilitation. In 1975, Mary bravely offered herself as the principal hostage during a prison riot at a federal maximum security penitentiary in New Westminster, British Columbia.

We have invested a transformational $11 billion to support home care and mental health coverage for all Canadians at every stage of their lives.

House debate  Madam Chair, I would like to go back to the matter of THC testing. I know that many people who consume marijuana on an ongoing basis have potentially high levels of THC in their bodies. They have expressed the concern that they will always test positive to THC and therefore will never be able to drive.

House debate  Madam Chair, I believe that the minister touched on this question already, but I will ask it again more specifically. After the coming into force of part 2 of Bill C-46 last December, there were some media articles on the application of the new rules relating to the offence of driving over the legal limit, the over-80 offence, which were broadened to capture drivers who were over 80 within two hours of driving.
