Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I welcome the opportunity to rise in the House today to speak to this motion and our recent efforts to ensure veterans and their families receive the respect, support, care and economic opportunities they deserve as they transition to a post-military life. While much has been said in the past few days, the fact remains that our government has placed the highest priority on making sure veterans and their families have the support and services they need, when they need them.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, I cannot comment on the details of this case because, of course, a veteran is involved. I should not have to remind the members opposite that their sharing of personal medical information of veterans for political gain is doubly the reason that we must protect veterans' personal information.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, as I have stated in the House before, at the centre of this case is a veteran. I will not back down from protecting the rights of a veteran and a veteran's family and their right to privacy in this case. I have asked my officials to go back to find out how the decision was made and to get back to me.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, as I said before, I share the outrage of the hon. member and many members of the House. I cannot comment on the specifics of this case because it also involves a veteran. This case involves a veteran whose privacy I must protect. I have asked officials to go back to find out what happened and to come back to me.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, once again, I will say that there are many of us who are uncomfortable with the decision that was made. One thing I will not back down on, though, and I do believe firmly in, is that we will look after not just the veteran but the family members of the veteran. In this case, I have asked that the department go back and review the decision for me to look at.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, my answer stands, but let me take advantage of this opportunity because there was something that came out in this story about PTSD, that this was depriving people with PTSD of their right to get treatment. Let me assure the House that is never the case. If people raise their hand and need treatment for PTSD, they will receive that treatment in 96% of cases.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, our hearts go out to the family of Constable Campbell. I always have to say this and I never like saying it, but it is important. For privacy reasons, I cannot get into the case. However, I made it very clear, and I think many people in this House made it very clear, how uncomfortable they were with this whole situation.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, we will ensure that veterans receive all the benefits they have earned. In fact, it is our top priority. As I said yesterday, our benefits are demand-driven, and so whether it is 10 or 10,000, we will always make sure that eligible veterans come forward and they will receive the benefits to which they are entitled.
