Petitions  Madam Speaker, I am proud to present a petition from my neighbours in Milton. The petitioners call upon the House of Commons to ensure that the human rights of Uighurs, Kazaks and predominantly Muslim minorities are protected. It also calls for an investigation into the human rights situation in Xinjiang, China be pursued, because Canada is obligated to confront the violation of international human rights in China against the Uighur Muslims and other minorities.

Diversity and Inclusion  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for Richmond Hill for his extraordinary hard work on Motion No. 36 to designate August 1 as emancipation day in Canada. There is much work to be done in the fight against anti-Black racism in Canada. That is why $50 million was spent to support anti-racism initiatives, and the work of the Anti-Racism Secretariat was included in the fall economic statement.

Black History Month  Mr. Speaker, throughout the month of February, Canadians have been celebrating black excellence and honouring the many contributions Black Canadians have made in building this nation. It is so true that Black history is Canadian history. However, it is the future of this country we are focused on building.

Official Languages  Mr. Speaker, bilingualism is such an important part of Canadian culture and identity. For anglophone MPs like me, this reality represents both a challenge and a golden opportunity to develop our full potential as Canadians. I have been working hard with my French teacher over the past year.

Oil Tanker Moratorium Act  Mr. Speaker, while I disagree with much of what my colleague has just said, I rise on a point of order because of a word that he used when he was categorizing the indigenous positions on this and many other subjects as somehow unanimous or collective. I disagree with that assertion entirely, but my point of order is that the member for Carleton used a possessive noun to describe indigenous people, the word “our”.

The Environment  Mr. Speaker, last week, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change released a list of the 325 conditions that the CN intermodal project must meet before it could proceed with any development in my riding of Milton. I recognize that these conditions address some of the concerns raised by my community and that this conditional approval is a technical assessment not an endorsement by the federal government.

Lou Marsh Award  Madam Speaker, it is a tie. This week, the Lou Marsh, the award for Canada's top athlete, went to two great Canadian footballers, Edmonton's Alphonso Davies and Montreal's Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. Alphonso Davies was born in a refugee camp in Ghana after his parents fled the civil war in Liberia.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I appreciate the hard work from my hon. colleague. We were on a panel together last night, and the collaboration was appreciated. However, I will, in fact, take our response to COVID-19 over that of the United States any day of the week. I am proud of our response and the plan.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the reason that I bring it up is that misinformation is actually incredibly damaging to the Canadian rhetoric. It is very dangerous. I had a call with seniors from my riding, just last night. They were really worried because they are listening to this anti-vaccine rhetoric and these notions that the number of deaths in Alberta has been inflated somehow.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank the hon. member for her excellent question. I am sorry about the quality of my French. I will have to answer in English. I share the eagerness of the member opposite for early and quick deployment of this vaccine. I would also love to see some dates, but the absolute first step in that line of questioning is Health Canada approval.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I am pleased to have the opportunity to rise in the House and speak to this government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of procuring safe and effective vaccines. As winter approaches and the number of COVID-19 cases reach record highs in most regions of the country, Canadians are becoming more and more concerned about how their families and communities will make it through the next few months while remaining safe, secure and healthy.

Conservation Authorities Act  Mr. Speaker, today, I join Halton mayors and conservation authorities across Ontario, and state my extreme frustration with Ontario's Bill 229, schedule 6 amendments to the Conservation Authorities Act. Conservation authorities, such as Conservation Halton, have served the interests of Ontarians for over 60 years.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I rise today and am jubilant, actually, because I heard my colleague opposite, the member for Carleton, possibly do a full one-eighty on something that I have seen him stand in the House to advocate against. I recognize that the member's message today was about jobs.

Restaurant Industry  Madam Speaker, COVID-19 has been tough for everyone, but with Canada's hospitality industry facing so many unique challenges, it has been particularly difficult for local restaurants across the country. Our government has provided billions of dollars in support through the Canada emergency wage subsidy and the commercial rent assistance program.

Broadcasting Act  Mr. Speaker, that is a really good question. I assume that type of conversation will arise at committee when we talk about the bill in further detail. I agree that indigenous history is not limited to the land that is currently Canada. Certainly indigenous nations and various different indigenous peoples walked across borders that did not exist then.
