Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, there are some subjects and circumstances that lend themselves to some minor adjustments and there are others that do not. The matter we are discussing falls into the second category. If our esteemed colleague would like to propose something, then, my goodness, that would be wonderful.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, it sounds like many of us are on the same page. Now all we need to know is where the government stands. I recognize that other MPs have raised this issue before. Our riding offices actually deal with a lot of cases related to these issues. I would imagine that government MPs have also been asked to intervene on this issue and that there will be discussions on the subject eventually.

Business of Supply  moved: That the House call on the government to increase the special Employment Insurance sickness benefits from 15 weeks to 50 weeks in the upcoming budget in order to support people with serious illnesses, such as cancer. Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. NDP member for not taking up our entire opposition day.

Justice  Mr. Speaker, I am polite guy, so I cannot turn down an invitation. Let's talk about aluminum. The Premier of Quebec is not a political tool for the Canadian government. There is one similarity between Bill 21 and aluminum, and it is quite telling. The government is clearly not working in the best interests of Quebec.

Justice  Mr. Speaker, yesterday, the Minister of Justice said that Bill 21 must be contested. Today, the Prime Minister is saying that the organization is completely independent. Mr. Parizeau used to say that governments are made to govern, which means to take responsibility. The English Montreal School Board operates under the Government of Quebec's exclusive jurisdiction.

Justice  Mr. Speaker, some Quebeckers may disagree with Bill 21, and they are perfectly free to challenge it in court, but they must not receive money from the federal government, money that includes taxes collected from Quebeckers, to challenge a bill that has broad support in Quebec. The government has just given $125,000 to the English Montreal School Board to challenge Bill 21.

Justice  Mr. Speaker, how odd to suggest that I or any member of the Quebec National Assembly would feel reassured. Since the government has seen the light, I will quote the Premier of Quebec, who said, “We are again asking that bill 21 be respected and that the federal leaders promise not to participate in any legal challenges.”

Canada Revenue Agency  Mr. Speaker, with respect to the new free trade agreement, the government's main, if not only, argument in recent days and weeks has been that the Premier of Quebec asked that it be ratified quickly. There seems to be a burst of enthusiasm for what Quebec wants. I wonder whether this sudden enthusiasm will lead the government to also approve a motion unanimously adopted by the National Assembly on May 15, 2018, regarding a single tax return.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, I lost some speaking time because of their noise. The head of Teck Resources is also expressing some concerns and needs a pipeline to move forward. This 40-year project will exceed by nearly 20 years the deadline by which the government wants Canada to be carbon neutral.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, the Teck Frontier project would sound the death knell for Canada's commitments under the Paris Agreement. The project means 260,000 barrels a day and four million tonnes of greenhouse gases. When asked about it—

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, this is becoming intolerable. When the Prime Minister was asked about this yesterday, I was a little surprised because he did not show the customary respect reserved for my colleagues. He said he makes decisions based on science, unlike my colleagues. However, the figure comes from—

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif  Mr. Speaker, this Sunday is the Super Bowl, and like many Quebeckers, I will be glued to my TV. All Quebeckers will be watching an exceptional doctor very closely. I am proud to say that this doctor hails from the riding of Beloeil—Chambly. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, a guard for the Kansas City Chiefs, will be guarding his team's star quarterback all the way to victory.

International Trade  Mr. Speaker, I think it is relatively well known by now that the Bloc Québécois has announced and presented to the government a numbers of things to consider with a view to finding an upstream solution to the problem of Quebec aluminum in relation to the CUSMA. Parliament has a golden opportunity to do the right thing, make the right choice.

International Trade  Mr. Speaker, I am glad to hear that. Unfortunately, at this point, the agreement has already been drafted, but there are indeed possible avenues. Unfortunately, I am sorry to have to say that, as it stands, the Bloc Québécois cannot vote in favour of the ways and means motion. I hope this is the only time we vote against it and that, going forward, we will be able to find reasons to vote with the government on this agreement.

International Trade  Mr. Speaker, how can any of the regions of Quebec have faith in a government that is prepared to abandon Saguenay—Lac-Saint-Jean and Côte-Nord? Everyone around the Prime Minister was nodding when he said that the industry was happy. Sure, since he has suggested that the industry outsource operations and rely on coal and lower salaries to produce the aluminum currently made in Quebec.
