New Democratic Party of Canada  Perhaps this is why the Liberal leader should not claim to be a math teacher. When will the anti-trade leader of the official opposition stop passing the pipe in an effort to close a deal with the pro-drug-trade, high on smiles, low on substance leader of the third party? Canadians are looking for the opposition to do its job, not toke the flames of an unwanted coalition fire.

Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada  Speaker, the next federal election is over a year away and the NDP is already waving the white flag. This week, the anti-trade leader of the official opposition passed the pipe, trying to make a deal with the pro-drug trade, high on smiles, low on substance, leader of the third party. He was toking the flames of the coalition fire.

Canada-Honduras Economic Growth and Prosperity Act  I would ask the member to challenge his colleagues, in a party that has been isolationist and anti-trade for 50 years, by saying that this is a way we can engage with countries, to actually help lift their economy out of much more difficult circumstances while also promoting job creation here in our country.

International Trade  Speaker, the answer is pretty simple. The NDP has no intention of signing any deals on trade because it is anti-trade. It continues to be anti-trade. Since we formed government in 2006, we have signed free trade agreements with nine countries. Once in the history of the party, NDP members supported one free trade deal.

Economic Action Plan 2013 Act No. 2  Half a billion people in Europe will now be able to access the Canadian market, and Canadian manufacturers and sellers will be able to sell their products within the European Union. This is really a good thing. We hear from the opposition members how anti-trade they are. This is unacceptable, because trade means jobs. We know that and Canadians know that. Canadians sent us here to get a job done. They gave us a majority in 2011 based on an economic platform we put forward to them.

Business of Supply  Furthermore, restrictions in the agreement will preserve Canada's current ability to review foreign investments under the Investment Canada Act. It is unfortunate that the NDP and its fellow anti-trade activists have continued to spread a great deal of misinformation about this agreement. Canadians should not be surprised at the anti-trade agenda of the NDP. After all, this is the same party whose leader travelled to Washington recently to argue against Canadian jobs, nor was that an isolated occurrence.

Business of Supply  They represent some 2.4 million Canadian jobs, jobs that the NDP would jeopardize if it had its way. The NDP's anti-trade credentials are well established. In particular, I would like to take a moment to dispel the many inaccuracies the NDP and its anti-trade allies have been spreading about Canada's foreign investment promotion and protection agreement with China.

Business of Supply  They represent some 2.4 million Canadian jobs that the NDP would simply throw away. Therefore, the NDP's anti-trade credentials are well established. Our government's leadership in resisting protectionist measures and continuing to create new opportunities for our exporters has been key to Canada's success.

Business of Supply  There are thousands of companies across Canada that benefit from the oil sands, especially Ontario's manufacturing heartland. Our government will stand firm and resist this anti-development, anti-trade stance and continue our work to create good, high-paying jobs for Canadians across this country.

International Trade committee  It is so unfortunate that I have to make this comment, that on the one hand, 80% of Canadians, according to an Ipsos poll, support the Canada-EU trade agreement, but on the other hand, everybody knows the NDP is anti-trade. They have never supported any trade. They have already said that it will be the worst trade agreement, that we have sold out our lumber and all kinds of things. They have been asking for the text now, and they have never asked for it before.

International Trade committee  —to introduce that. I understand that the NDP is anti-trade. We know that. You have voted against almost every trade agreement Canada has ever signed.

Natural Resources  While our government is focused on creating jobs and economic growth for Canada, the NDP attacks Canadian jobs. While we support Canadian workers, the NDP continues its anti-trade, anti-development and anti-resource agenda.

Canada-Honduras Free Trade Agreement  It will create new sources of prosperity for Canadian businesses of all sizes and for their employees. Despite the New Democrats' rhetoric on liberalized trade, its anti-trade partners tell the real story. As the Council of Canadians leader, Maude Barlow, recently stated in regard to the Canadian-EU trade agreement, the NDP is only worried about “optics”.

Safeguarding Canada's Seas and Skies Act  Speaker, I want to thank my hon. friend for his speech, because he has given us so much ammunition. He has exposed the NDP for what it actually is. It is anti-free market, anti-trade, anti-growth, and anti-prosperity. We are going to have great fun reviewing this particular speech, so I want to thank him for exposing the NDP for what it actually is. A number of years ago, an award-winning economist named Kuznets created something called the Kuznets curve.
