Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Madam Speaker, rather than just being an MP, I am going to put my dental hat on here because that is what I was educated in. Although the hon. member has applauded how well the NDP has brought this forward, I am going to remind him that the Canadian Dental Association actually spoke out against this program initially.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Mr. Speaker, the first thing is that when we talk about delays in this House, we have to understand the process. We know that these agreements have been signed, so the impact of this is not to the children and families whom this bill is connecting with. That is probably one of the key things that I want to point out.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Mr. Speaker, unfortunately, that is exactly how I see it as well. I see that there are intentions in this bill that are very positive because child care is necessary for families, to be able to go to work and provide for their families. Absolutely, I would not disagree with that at all.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Mr. Speaker, finally we are getting to more of a discussion and that is part of the problem here: It has become so politicized. I have listened to speeches time and time again that are just about political wedges. I want this to be about parents and I want this to be about the children and the quality day care that they get.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Mr. Speaker, I would like to withdraw that comment. Perhaps we could have some more dignity and respect in this place. As I have indicated, women have been increasing their presence in the workforce over the past few decades. According to Statistics Canada, in 2020, 47.1% of the Canadian workforce are women.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Mr. Speaker, it is funny, because I have this speech that I wrote, which I am very passionate about, even though I am Conservative. I am a mom who needed child care, and I do not even know where to begin on this, because I am listening to the men across the room telling us what it is like to be a mom and how difficult it is to seek child care.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  I am all good. I do not need anyone to continue to yell. Perhaps I will remind the member from the NDP sitting in the back corner that the reason they are in the back corner is that their policies are not votable by all Canadians. The fact is that he is yelling that this is being delayed.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  That is exactly what I am coming to. They continue to put words in my mouth. I thank the member for Alfred-Pellan for continuing to put words in my mouth. As I have said, Conservatives are worried about child care, and I am going to continue. I have never seen such rudeness. Were members drinking or something?

Protecting Young Persons from Exposure to Pornography Act  moved that Bill S-210, An Act to restrict young persons’ online access to sexually explicit material, be read the first time. I am here with my colleague from Peace River—Westlock putting forward this very important piece of legislation that focuses on protecting children and restricting them from access to pornography, recognizing the impact on women and other persons of exposing youth to sexually explicit material and violence and deterring the organizations that make this type of material available on the Internet.

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, this past month, a constituent's bill for natural gas was $168.50. The federal carbon tax was $30.78. This is more than the individual charges for delivery, transportation costs and HST were. Under the government, it is evident that life costs more for Canadians, with the rising costs of gas, heat and food.

Mother's Day  Mr. Speaker, Mother's Day is a day to celebrate and honour mothers and mother figures for the love, support and care they provide to their children and families. It is a day to appreciate the hard work and the sacrifices mothers make to raise their children and maintain their households.

Privilege  Madam Speaker, I am going to put on my FEWO chair hat. We are able to take in information that is confidential. As a member of Parliament, I came to this place and took my oath. My oath is to this country, and that is what we are. When we are provided confidential documents, it is up to us to ensure that those documents are secure, that they are not shown out.

Privilege  Madam Speaker, the answer is very simple: absolutely. When one member is being attacked, it is an attack on us all. I look at our relationship with the member of Parliament. There is a closeness we have when we work within caucuses. The discussions that we have are on a very different level when working with caucus members.

Privilege  Madam Speaker, it is extremely important that there be an inquiry into this and that we get to the bottom of this. Kenny Chiu deserved to be here. Voters have the right. There is democracy, but we know that there was a lot of influence that was going on, which changed the voter turnout.

Privilege  Madam Speaker, hold your boots, because the government actually did one thing right, very late, but the fact is that MPs need to know immediately, and that was something that the Prime Minister actually said. It is great that he said it. Now he needs to act on it. The member for Wellington—Halton Hills should have a full briefing, knowing exactly what happened and understanding how his family was targeted.
