Citizenship and Immigration committee  Madam Chair, I think those are excellent points. Again, I'll come back to the oldest of the ones we're talking about. It's from 2017, so it's not that old. If we look at the Atlantic immigration pilot, what we see is a question of how you build settlement support with the employer.

As well, I think we have some important statistics on the current immigration landscape, how many people are staying in cities, how many people are in communities themselves, just as good background information.

In this one, it was the role of the employer, but you can't have the role of the employer without having the role of the community. That direct role and that direct stake in wanting to retain the employees who were coming in, the newcomers who were coming in, was key to the success of the program.

One, we have done consultations with communities and provinces and territories as we get ready to set up a municipal nominee program. The second is we've gathered good lessons learned from the existing federal regional pilots. I'll come back to that.

Across the country, communities in rural and northern Canada have told us that immigration is key to their economic and social well-being. It's one of the most important tools to fill labour market skills and shortages. Immigration is also vital to growing Canada's many rural communities.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  One of the nice things about the Canada experience class is that these individuals by and large are in Canada. That's how we can process these applications and bring these applications to landing in 2021. That's a big difference from what we've seen in other categories. We were quite targeted about what we were doing under express entry.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  We're looking at a number of measures in 2021 of things we can do to ensure we will achieve our levels targets. The minister has talked about some of these publicly. We're looking at things like smoother transitions of people who are here on a temporary basis, such as students working on post-graduate work permits or some temporary workers.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  Sure. Off the top of my head, I can say how many scored above 400, and that's over 70% of the applicants. We can certainly get back to committee, Madam Chair, with the information the honourable member has sought.

For those paper applications that are coming in, I'm happy to talk about what we have done over the past year. The pandemic hit us hard. We sent staff home, particularly in our case processing centres. This was not a labour force that was equipped to work from home.
