Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, the federal government has taken huge steps to support Canadians and their businesses. Using Quebec as an example, they were very late to respond and to offer help. Many of my constituents were saying that the only help they were receiving was from the federal government.

Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague from Abitibi—Témiscamingue for his question. I would say this bill is a great start. Fixed costs include rent, and we are helping businesses pay their rent. We are also helping them pay their employees' salaries. I think supporting this legislation is a step in the right direction.

Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, the government did act and responded accordingly. When it comes to rent, this is the jurisdiction of the provinces in most cases. There was a lot of red tape around this program in the beginning. I am really glad to see that we have come a long way and that we will be offering assistance directly to businesses as of now.

Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, of course it has been a very difficult time for all businesses across Canada or at least for the majority of them. We know we are not anywhere near the end of this pandemic. We know that businesses will continue to need our help in the months to come, and perhaps in the years to come.

Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to have the opportunity to discuss the government's plan to support businesses and the economic recovery in response to COVID-19. Since the beginning of this pandemic, the government has had two main goals: to protect the lives of Canadians, and to protect and preserve Canada's businesses, jobs and economy.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, our government has been pursuing two goals, namely to protect Canadians' lives and to protect and safeguard businesses, jobs and the Canadian economy.

Oxi Day  Mr. Speaker, this year, for the first time in over 30 years, Canada's foreign affairs minister paid an official visit to Greece to discuss the conflict in the eastern Mediterranean with Prime Minister Mitsotakis and his Greek counterpart. Speaking of Greece, today, October 28, Greeks around the world are celebrating Oxi Day, perhaps not all together like other years but virtually and in spirit, to commemorate 80 years since Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas's response to Bonito Mussolini's ultimatum to allow the Axis forces to enter Greece or go to war.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I think this is an important first step and a significant one. In committee, I am sure members will hear of different ways they can better the lives of the LGBTQ2 community. I would love to provide any support we can give. I hope other members throughout the House feel the same way.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I would personally be open to it, but I know there are some reservations because of charter protections. The way it is currently written, only consenting adults would be able to receive conversion therapy; however, actually giving conversion therapy would be illegal.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I came from a school with a wide array of backgrounds and a lot of my students definitely felt comfortable expressing themselves and being different. It was a good thing to be unique at that school. I definitely think our generation has a lot to learn, and I hope that this generation can teach future generations yet again to open their minds and to make the world a better place for everyone.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, my students are now adults. Some of my students have given me feedback on Facebook. In my opinion, they are strongly in favour of the bill and totally against conversion therapy. That is my response.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for his question. I do not sit on that committee, but I am confident that all members will work together to really make this legislation the best it can be and ensure that it protects as many people as possible.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, thank you for the opportunity to speak on Bill C-6, an act to amend the Criminal Code so as to criminalize behaviours linked to conversion therapy in Canada. The bill seeks to protect LGBTQ2 kids and teens from the long-term harmful effects of conversion therapy, a range of dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person's sexual orientation.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, as we saw in a lot of the feedback received during consultations, many people did think that a lot of the safeguards were preventing many people from receiving the right to receive MAID in their final moments or in times when they did not see a recovery and they saw their condition getting worse with time.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I personally do not know how that number came up, however, I know that if someone's mental capacity is at the risk of being lost in that 90-day period, it will not take 90 days. However, I would imagine that, for somebody who does have many more years ahead of them and does not have a reasonably foreseeable death, perhaps more reflection needs to be done before actually going through with this kind of thing.
