Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the member for Provencher for his speech, but I do not agree with much of what he said. Members of my community have been stuck across the border because of the illegal blockades north of Coutts. The member spoke a lot about trucking and his concerns for the trucking industry, but what about the truckers who are trying to deliver goods and services?

Diversity and Inclusion  Mr. Speaker, this week marks the 26th anniversary of the designation of the month of February as Black History Month thanks to a motion moved by the Hon. Jean Augustine in this Parliament. This is a month to celebrate, remember and recognize the many contributions made by Black Canadians and their accomplishments.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, I want to thank the hon. member for Winnipeg North for talking about many important issues, such as the response of our government to the COVID-19 crisis in supporting workers and businesses during this difficult time. Seniors  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the people of Calgary Skyview for the honour and privilege of serving as their member of Parliament after serving as their city councillor. Throughout the campaign, I heard from many seniors about the struggles they have endured due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, all our municipalities across Canada are faced with health emergencies in their cities. In Calgary, for instance, we have had a tremendous number of challenges in our downtown core with many of our most vulnerable, especially during this pandemic. We have great local organizations such as the Bear Clan Patrol that have stepped up to support community members in need.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, I worked very closely on many crime initiatives in Calgary as a city councillor, as a member of the police commission and as the chair of the public safety task force. I can tell the member that our government supported working collaboratively through the public safety task force to bring forward meaningful consultation and funding to support municipalities in crime prevention initiatives, including on guns and gangs.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, I am not sure if the first statement by the hon. member for Lac-Saint-Jean regarding support for factory workers was a question or comment. Our government supported workers throughout the pandemic, through the CERB and small business supports, to ensure all Canadians across Canada who could not work had those supports to safely stay home to protect themselves and their families.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, we have seen some very challenging times in Alberta over the last number of years, and in my riding in particular. The economic downturn, a massive hailstorm in 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic have had profound impacts on those who call Calgary's northeast home. No matter the challenge, we have come together time and time again to fight for what matters: safe neighbourhoods, healthy families, well-paying jobs and a bright future for our children.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, as I stand in the House of Commons as the newly elected member of Parliament for Calgary Skyview, I want to give my thanks, first, to all those in Calgary Skyview who voted in the 2021 federal election. Regardless of partisan differences, their participation in the democratic process matters deeply.

House debate  Madam Chair, this is an important issue, which is why we sent a team Canada delegation from this House to Washington. We will work together with members across the aisle, all parties, to get ideas and bring forward solutions that improve opportunities for Canadian businesses, but, most importantly, protect Canadian jobs.

House debate  Madam Chair, this is an important industry that employs 100,000 forestry workers and provides over $13 billion into the B.C. economy. We are going to l work closely with our communities and workers. Our government remains closely committed to working with all stakeholders to find the best approach moving forward.

House debate  Madam Chair, these tariffs are unwarranted, and it is extremely important that we have a good and strong trading relationship with the United States and that we resolve these issues. We want a positive outcome to this dispute. I have worked in the construction industry. Many of my constituents run businesses that are impacted by this dispute and many of the tradespeople and workers also are impacted.
