Public Services and Procurement  Mr. Speaker, the good news is that the Auditor General did her job. The bad news is that the government did not want her to do her job. Let us imagine what would have happened otherwise. People would just shrug off the fact that ArriveCAN turned out to be a washout, but it would be no big deal.

Government Business No. 34—Proceedings on Bill C-62  Mr. Speaker, it is a real pleasure for me to answer your invitation to ask a question. During his speech, the member related an issue with the fact that he considered that, on this side, we sometimes say something that is not true. Unfortunately, that is not a fact. An October 8, 2022, Global News report stated, and I quote: How poverty, not pain, is driving Canadians with disabilities to consider medically-assisted death.

Government Business No. 34—Proceedings on Bill C-62  Mr. Speaker, during the speech, we heard some things that ought to be corrected. The member alleged that some members on this side of the House were spreading disinformation, which is completely false. I will prove it—

Government Business No. 34—Proceedings on Bill C-62  Madam Speaker, for starters, yes, the work took place over a period of six years under three different governments. There were two elections during that time. That is exactly what I said earlier. This is not meant to be a partisan issue. It took years for the debate to come before the House.

Government Business No. 34—Proceedings on Bill C-62  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question and the quality of her French. That is similar to what I was saying at the end of my answer. Palliative care must go hand in hand with the issue of MAID. They are not mutually exclusive. We must think about palliative care before we think about medical assistance in dying.

Government Business No. 34—Proceedings on Bill C-62  Madam Speaker, that is an interesting question. I was there in 2015, when I got elected for the first time. As I said earlier, the prime minister at that time made the right decision not to put the bill on the table just before the election because this is everything but a political issue; it is a personal issue.

Government Business No. 34—Proceedings on Bill C-62  Madam Speaker, I will be sharing my time with my colleague from Kelowna—Lake Country. Once again, I rise in the House to speak about a sensitive topic, one that is fundamental in our lives, and that is medical assistance in dying. Personally, I am in favour of medical assistance in dying.

Government Business No. 34—Proceedings on Bill C-62  Mr. Speaker, first, I would like to thank the minister and congratulate him on the quality of his French. I knew him when he arrived in 2015, and I have seen his progress, step by step. I would like to sincerely congratulate him on his French. That is where my congratulations end.

Impact Assessment Act  moved for leave to introduce Bill C‑375, An Act to amend the Impact Assessment Act (federal-provincial agreements). Madam Speaker, it is with much emotion and pride that I introduce my first bill. It is never too late to do good. This bill amends the Impact Assessment Act to provide that the federal government and the provinces may, if certain conditions are met, enter into agreements to exempt certain projects from the application of that act.

National Strategy on Flood and Drought Forecasting Act  Mr. Speaker, I would like to acknowledge you because you are my MP when we are here in Ottawa. I live in your riding of Gatineau. Climate change is real. Humans are contributing to climate change and so humans need to help reduce the impact of it. The bill that was introduced by my colleague from Lac-Saint-Louis seeks to “establish a national strategy respecting flood and drought forecasting”.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, after eight years of this Liberal government, the housing crisis is hitting all Canadians hard. Take Quebec City, for example. The average rent has increased by more than 19% over the past year. It will take twice as long to pay off a mortgage. They will need up to 25 years to be able to put aside the down payment to buy a house.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, for eight years, this government has insulted Canadians with its housing record, which is dismal right now. Even the president of CMHC acknowledges that this government has no plan to turn things around. Housing starts have dropped by 28% over the past year. That is the Liberal reality.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague from Saint-Jean for her speech, which was interesting as always. I think that 338 parliamentarians can say with one voice that our riding offices are overwhelmed with the backlog of immigration applications. There is a backlog of nearly one million applications.

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, after eight years of the Liberal government, one thing is for sure: Canadians are paying more taxes. The other thing we know for sure is that Liberal carbon taxes are the cornerstone of the Liberal approach to fighting climate change. Do they actually work, though?

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, I would like to know who is answering my questions. Is it the environment minister who claims that things are in the works, or the environment minister who signs off on things we cannot assess? Which one is speaking today? Is it the environment minister under whose watch Canada went from ranking 58th to 62nd on climate performance?
