Privilege  Madam Speaker, I thank the member for sharing the story of what is happening at those universities. These are exactly the types of things we are hearing. People are being muzzled and they are not able to speak because they are fearful. I think of all the students who go to Western University.

Privilege  Madam Speaker, I appreciate the excellent question. That is what we should be asking. We know that there was interference. I can name three members. We have Nelly Shin, Kenny Chiu and Bob Saroya. They are three outstanding members of Parliament with whom we recognize that there was interference.

Privilege  Madam Speaker, I want to start off with an excerpt from a Globe and Mail article from February 2019. It reads, “The allegations reported in the story are false. At no time did I or my office direct the current or previous attorney-general to make any particular decision in this matter”.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, according to a constituent, he makes a decent living of around $70,000 and lives within his means with no credit card debt, yet he and his wife are struggling. He states that there are no extras for the family, so they cannot afford the Liberal way of living and shelling out more and more.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, government policies have made life more unaffordable. They are not working for Canadians who are struggling or for seniors on fixed incomes. The Prime Minister does not understand that 41¢ per litre being added to heat, gas and food does drive up the cost of living.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, with respect to the issue of the guaranteed basic income, when I was doing the poverty study, I was able to review them between 2015 and 2019. I know that we need to look at something that actually works. We probably have very different ways of approaching that when it comes to a guaranteed basic income.

Red Dress Day  Mr. Chair, that is what we all should be doing: fighting for women. When we are talking about that, we always talk about how to raise women up and how to empower them. It is when we work together on something that we all find a common goal. I think that if we looked at everybody, as members of Parliament, this is a common goal.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, I think about today when I went to the Native Women's Association. I was sitting here thinking, “I need a red dress pin, I need a red dress pin”, and I ran over there and got it. I jumped into a cab and got red dress pins for me and a couple of my ladies. There are the relationships to be built and the culture.

Red Dress Day  Mr. Chair, I thank the member for teaching me to become a person who understands this a lot better. Seeing it through her eyes or sharing the experiences that she shares with her own community makes us all better people. It makes us all recognize what a job we can do. That is how we work together, by sharing who we are.

Red Dress Day  Mr. Chair, I think what we often do when we look at inquiries and recommendations is point fingers at who was to blame in the past instead of asking how we make a plan for the future. I know it is really important that we reflect on the past when we do these inquiries so we know what to reflect on.

Red Dress Day  Mr. Chair, it is so important that we are all gathered here today as we are discussing this issue. I would like to thank all of the speakers prior and all those coming after me. I am looking at some of the speakers and notice many members of the status of women committee speaking on this important topic tonight.

National Strategy for Eye Care Act  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank the member for putting forward this really important bill. Eye care is absolutely critical for Canadians. I say this as just a few months ago my husband was a patient having cataracts removed from both eyes, and seeing how much technology has changed, seeing how many things are available now to patients and how we can make that better for all in putting this forward.

Carbon Pricing  Madam Speaker, Canadians continue to struggle due to the soaring costs of fuel for their cars, homes and groceries. People on fixed incomes cannot absorb the rising costs and they do not have the opportunity to realize additional wages. The government is crippling Canadians financially and to suggest that the carbon tax rebate covers the additional tax is absolutely nonsense.

Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada  Mr. Speaker, Canadian families are struggling. Food bank usage is skyrocketing. People are cancelling their vacations because they just cannot afford them. However, the Prime Minister just took a $160,000 trip to another friend's villa. This is just another example of the Prime Minister being out of touch with Canadians.
