Business of Supply  Madam Chair, I would like to ask the following question on behalf of the families, seniors and the poor who are grappling with an increase in the cost of gas and groceries, the likes of which we have not often seen in the past 30 years in Canada, an increase that for the most part stems from the government's decisions.

Business of Supply  Madam Chair, those measures were already in place before. At this time, we are grappling with the skyrocketing cost of living, which was created by all of this government's spending. What will the government do today to change the situation and improve the cost of living for all Canadians?

Business of Supply  Madam Chair, are the seniors listening to us right now to understand that the cheque they received before the election was to buy their vote, that all their problems have now been solved, and that the cost of living is no longer an issue, yes or no?

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, since 2015, the government has been borrowing money and spending it recklessly, telling us repeatedly that nothing can be done about the inflation problem. In reality, because of Liberal mismanagement, we are stuck with skyrocketing gas, food and housing prices. The cost of living is now a concern for the vast majority of Quebeckers and Canadians, but not for our Prime Minister.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, here is the reality, based on the numbers. In Quebec alone, the inflation rate is 5.1%. Prices have skyrocketed. Gas prices have gone up 35% and housing prices have increased by 20%. According to the latest calculations, Canadian families will have to spend an additional $695 on groceries next year, in 2022.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, our entrepreneurs, our job creators, are on their last legs. In April and June, I personally wrote to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship with ideas for solutions to help our businesses, which are hurting because of the severe labour shortage. It has been seven months, and nothing has been done to fix this problem.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, the minister can say whatever he wants, but on the official Immigration Canada website, it says that they are behind. It says in black and white that they are now processing 2019 applications. In one month it will be 2022. Businesses need help now, they need the means to address the labour shortage problem now.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, this is what we are all hearing in our constituency offices: labour problems are affecting agriculture, retail and manufacturing, Immigration Canada is having trouble processing applications from foreign workers who want to come here to help, and the cost of living, groceries, gas and housing is going through the roof.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, yesterday, yet again, there was a lot of talk, but no real action to deal with the inflation that is causing the cost of groceries, fuel and housing to skyrocket for Canadians and Quebeckers. Can the Prime Minister, who genuinely once said that budgets balance themselves, tell Canadians when he plans to bring in tangible measures that will help address the skyrocketing cost of living that is affecting everyone?

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, the reality is that the Prime Minister's policies and priorities do nothing for Canadians who are concerned about the cost of living crisis. This crisis is preventing families from buying a home, increasing the cost of necessities and crippling businesses because of the supply chain limitations and labour shortages that are affecting all of us.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, I wonder if the Prime Minister read the Speech from the Throne before it was read by the Governor General, because the word “inflation” only came up once in the entire speech. Instead of laying out an economic recovery plan for families, seniors and small businesses, the Prime Minister is proposing more deficits that will lead to higher costs and higher taxes, which will increase the cost of living for Canadians.

Government Business No. 10—Broadcasting Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question, which is more than relevant. It gives me an opportunity to come back to that subject. We, the Conservatives, have been attacked a lot for opposing Bill C‑10. However, when the government tried to demonize us for what we were saying, it attacked the thousands of Canadians across the country that wrote to us.

Government Business No. 10—Broadcasting Act  Madam Speaker, these 15 seconds will not be nearly enough time. I will say, however, that the Conservatives will always fight for freedom of expression, not only for Canadians but also for our artists who want to have the freedom to write songs, say the things they want to say and put on the quality comedy shows that we all know.

Government Business No. 10—Broadcasting Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague who sits with me on the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage and who works very hard, as we all do. To answer her question, unfortunately I do not at all agree with her. At first, we agreed on the principle of Bill C‑10. The bill had several flaws and we were in a hurry to find common ground, but sadly, the government amended it along the way.

Government Business No. 10—Broadcasting Act  Madam Speaker, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to rise after you presented the long list of amendments to all parliamentarians and the people who are watching at home. Canadians are interested in Bill C-10 and the whole saga surrounding it since its introduction.
