Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, I take exception to the way the hon. member has framed this. I am perfectly happy to stand up in this House and respond to questions raised. I will always stand up for Canadian industries. I will stand up for Canadian workers. Every single day, that is what we do on this side of the House, and we have been successful.

Automotive Industry  Mr. Speaker, we have made it very clear to the Americans that the protectionist and discriminatory provisions for electric vehicle credits are discriminatory to Canada. We have been building automobiles together for 50 years and integrating our supply chains for over 50 years, and Canada will be prepared to stand up for its national interest.

International Trade  Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 32(2) and in accordance with the enhanced transparency requirements set out in the amended policy on tabling of treaties in Parliament, I am pleased to notify the House of Commons of the government's intent to initiate negotiations for a Canada-United Kingdom free trade agreement.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the hon. member for that really important question, particularly because it is about the small businesses and entrepreneurs in our country, who are really the backbone of the Canadian economy. We have had their backs throughout the entire pandemic.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the CFIB for their collaboration, co-operation and engagement throughout the entire pandemic. Their voices throughout this very difficult time have helped us create the very emergency support programs that have helped businesses. Countless businesses have told all of us, even those across the aisle, that the support programs have to stay in place so they can get through this vulnerable time of the pandemic.

Small Business  Madam Speaker, farm families are absolutely at the very heart of all of our communities across the country. Supporting them, particularly through this very difficult time of the pandemic, has been a top priority for the government. We are going to continue to support farm families all across this country.

Small Business  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague and congratulate him on his re-election. Black business owners make important contributions to the Canadian economy. Their success is a priority. A total of $10.7 million has already been distributed to support Black entrepreneurs in Montreal, like those in Bourassa, through the Black entrepreneurship program's national ecosystem fund.

Automobile Industry  Mr. Speaker, just a few days ago, I returned, along with colleagues on all sides of the House, to advocate in the U.S. on this issue, standing up for Canadian workers, standing up for Canadian businesses. This work continues. I want to thank all my colleagues on all sides of the House for this advocacy.

Public Safety  Mr. Speaker, we have been clear that the work under way takes into account the important domestic and international considerations. We will ensure to always make the best decision for Canadians. We will not compromise matters of national security.

Public Safety  Mr. Speaker, our government will always ensure that our Canadian networks are safe and secure. Canadians can be assured we are not going to compromise on matters of national security. We are not going to comment on specific companies, but members should know that the examination of emerging 5G technology and the associated security and economic considerations is under way.

As we have clearly indicated, our approach will take into account important domestic and international considerations, and we will make the best possible decision for Canadians.

Canada-U.S. Relations  Mr. Speaker, Canadian softwood lumber is an absolute priority for our federal government. I am looking forward to tomorrow to take a team Canada to Washington, where we will stand up for Canada. We will continue to advocate for Canadian businesses, for the forestry sector and for the workers they employ.

Canada-U.S. Relations  Mr. Speaker, Canada has taken up this issue through CUSMA, at the NAFTA panel and at the WTO. In 2020, it was ruled that Canada was indeed a fair trading partner. We are going to continue to stand up for the rights of Canada's forestry sector and its workers. I have shared with the U.S. trade representative and U.S. interlocutors that of course we would be open to an agreement that will bring predictability and stability, but we are not going to take any agreement.

Canada-U.S. Relations  Mr. Speaker, we have consistently defended the forestry sector, whether it is at the NAFTA panel or through CUSMA. I would remind the hon. member that we only have chapter 10 in CUSMA because we preserved the dispute settlement mechanism in CUSMA. We will fight for Canadian businesses and the softwood lumber industry.
