International Human Rights Act  Madam Speaker, before I begin my speech, I would like to take a moment to wish a happy Thanksgiving to all members and all employees of the House of Commons. I hope everyone has an opportunity to spend time with their loved ones this holiday weekend. Canada's commitment to uphold human rights abroad, as well as policies and actions undertaken to protect these rights internationally, are a frequent focus of parliamentarian attention.

International Human Rights Act  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank the member for Northumberland—Peterborough South for bringing forward this bill. One of the areas that I was looking through in the bill would call on the government to publicize a list of human rights defenders whose release the government is actively seeking.

Cost of Living Relief Act, No. 2  Mr. Speaker, previously when we were debating Bill C-31, we were discussing dental care and that this was a first step. Would the member like to elaborate in terms of a next step that we could look at for dental care for all Canadians?

Copyright Act  Madam Speaker, when we have private member's hour and we are debating, we sometimes pay attention and we sometimes do not. This has been a really interesting conversation. I actually want to thank the member for bringing this forward because, while we have had a bill that was very similar with respect to the right to repair, this one seems to narrow in on another aspect of the Copyright Act.

Copyright Act  Madam Speaker, I want to thank the member opposite for bringing forward this bill. I know that we worked together on the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology last Parliament, so I am really interested to hear more about his bill. I just wanted to know if he could elaborate a little on what the difference is between his bill and Bill C-244, which just passed in the House, in terms of right to repair.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I am sure that if you canvass the House, you will find consent to see the clock at the time for the beginning of Private Members' Business.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, coulda, woulda, shoulda: there are a lot of things that happened in the past, but we know that right now Canadians are suffering. Canadians need us to come together to bring forward measures that are going to help them today. I do not agree that multi-million dollar companies should be allowing their executives to get away with bonuses when people are suffering.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I want to acknowledge the excellent work of the Parti Québécois in establishing the early childhood centres. I support this program, which all Quebeckers are proud of. With regard to dental care, our program aims to offer it first to young children aged 12 and under, and then, later, to seniors who need it.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the reality of war has absolutely impacted inflation, the costs and availability here in Canada of oil and gas, and so on. There are definitely questions to be asked with respect to the profits that oil and gas companies are making in terms of what is happening in Ukraine.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, when I go to my local IGA, I too notice that three or four of the checkout counters have now been replaced by self-serve checkout counters. I asked the local manager why and I was told it was due to a shortage of manpower that he had to cut down on the number of cashiers.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank the member from the NDP for bringing forward this important motion. We are at the tail end of three weeks of sitting in this Parliament, and we have been talking a lot about what Canadians are going through, and we hear them. We know, through all of us talking to the citizens in our respective ridings, that people are hurting.

Human Rights in Iran  Mr. Speaker, in recent weeks, many of my constituents have written to me to express their horror at the terrible situation currently unfolding in Iran. I was very shocked, as they were, to learn of the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, after being detained by the police.

Hurricane Fiona  Mr. Speaker, as this is the first time on my feet since hurricane Fiona made landfall 72 hours ago, I want to make sure that all members in the communities that were affected know that our hearts are with them. I want to say to Quebeckers affected by the hurricane that we are there for them.

Cost of Living Relief Act, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, before I ask my question, I would like to send my best wishes to my colleague across the way and his constituency in advance of Hurricane Fiona. I hope his community is spared, that everyone stays safe and that they are able to avoid the worst of this very dangerous storm.
