Ethics  Madam Speaker, once again, Conservatives are really trying to reach and take wild swings. Ministers are required to submit to the most rigorous conflict of interest and ethics requirements in the western world. The minister and all ministers have fully complied with those requirements.

Taxation  Rents and mortgages have doubled, and groceries have doubled. Now the summer family road trip that so many look forward to is becoming out of reach. In fact, families from my riding who look forward to going to Jasper every summer are having to cancel this trip because of the NDP-Liberal carbon tax. That is why Conservatives are calling on the NDP-Liberal government to give Canadians a break this summer by axing the carbon tax and all other fuel taxes.

Electoral Participation Act  The Liberals are claiming that they would be changing the election date so as not to overlap with the festival of Diwali, and it just coincidentally happens to be that the seven-day additional delay would secure the pensions of over 80 MPs after six years of service, meaning any MP elected after October 21, 2019, would reach that six-year threshold only if the election occurs after October 21, 2025. I will note that this includes me and 31 of my Conservative colleagues, and I am prepared to run on my record.

Electoral Participation Act  I would be able to see every house with a phone number attached to it, and 85% to 90% of the people would be in that book. If one wanted to be a candidate, all one really needed to reach out by phone was a phone bank and a Who Called? book. How things have changed. Dealing with data is so very important. It has become apparent that we need to ensure we protect personal information as much as we can, without compromising the principles of democracy.

Petitions  The first petition is concerning the rising rate of crime in rural communities. The petitioners no longer feel safe in their communities because of the soft-on-crime laws passed by the Liberal-NDP government. They note that Bill C-75 made it easier for repeat violent offenders to obtain bail, Bill C-5 removed mandatory prison time for serious gun, drugs and sex crimes, and Bill C-21 redirects valuable police resources away from our streets and toward too much back-office work.

Taxation  Those are the numbers. More than that, our constituents are feeling it. Their constituents are feeling it. The longer the Liberals are in government, the poorer Canadians get. Canadians desperately need a break. Will the Liberals agree to giving Canadians a fuel tax holiday, or better yet, call a carbon tax election?

Business of the House  Despite it all, I will continue to reach out to opposition members to make sure that the business of the House takes place efficiently. This evening, we will deal with report stage of Bill C-64 respecting pharmacare. Tomorrow, we will commence second reading of Bill C-65, the electoral participation act.

Official Languages committee  In addition, this morning in camera, we discussed the other studies planned in connection with this continuum, which we are still working on. I think we've reached a turning point. So I'm reaching out to the opposition and suggesting that the motion be withdrawn and that we get on with the work. Organizations across Canada, including anglophones in Quebec, want us to get to work to meet the needs of those communities.

Transport committee  Do people still need air transportation service, even if they're 10 hours away or 900 km from a city like Montreal? Is it an essential service, or do people no longer need it once their town has road access?

Procedure and House Affairs committee  I'll go to Samara in a second, but I want to mention my last recommendation. Let's say that came to pass. There was a tool by which if a behaviour online had reached a certain threshold, an order could be given to social media platforms to disclose identity. I'm not talking about for freedom; it's harassing behaviour. The next thing is, what's to be done about it?

Transport committee  We are told there is a 1-800 number, but I've been at the airport when things go wrong. You can't reach anyone, so you're left with a terminal full of passengers trying to figure out how to help themselves. People are swirling and trying to figure out whether they can get a car and drive to the next airport.

Fisheries committee  We have so much empathy for our relatives on the Canadian side of the border. They've faced much longer declines in the salmon than we have, and it's devastating to watch them also struggle through that. Many of our children have not fished in their lifetime. I'm concerned now that some of our elders won't be able to fish within the rest of their lifetime either.

Points of Order  A simple Google search shows that, over the years, members of all four recognized parties in the House have used the phrase “anti-Alberta” or “anti-Quebec” in standing up for their constituents in ways that their constituents would expect them to stand up. I think we are not better off in the House when the list of words we cannot use gets longer and longer. I think we suffer from a lack of clarity right now as we make efforts, as members of Parliament, to stand up for our constituents. I would like some clarification on what language we can and cannot use because it seems to have changed significantly over the past several months.

Official Languages committee  I have a hard time understanding that, just like Mr. Samson. We're at an impasse and we're reaching out to our colleagues, who are flying in the face of the committee's rules and procedures. We find ourselves in the current situation because we're in a minority and the members of the opposition challenged the rules and the chair's decision.
