Taxation  We have been delivering on our promises to make life more affordable, while balancing the budget. Tax freedom day is proof that now is not the time for the Liberal leader's plan for reckless spending and tax hikes.

Business of Supply  Our low-tax plan has helped to ensure that Canadian families in all income groups have experienced increases of about 10% in their take-home pay. The lowest income families have seen a 14% increase. Tax freedom day is over two weeks earlier under our government than it was under the tax-and-spend Liberals. Statistics Canada has also confirmed that families are better off today under our Conservative government than they were under previous Liberal governments.

Respect for Communities Act  When Canadians send almost 50¢ of every $1 they make to politicians at all levels, and thankfully, under our government, I think tax freedom day is now 28 days earlier than it was before, all they ask for is a say in the things we are doing. When something like this is going to be put in a community, if it actually helps, if it makes a big difference, it should be the proponents who are prepared to stand by what they are doing.

Taxation  We established the landmark tax-free savings account, the most important personal savings vehicle since RRSPs. The NDP opposed it. Tax Freedom Day is over two weeks earlier than when the Liberals were in power. Again, we are lowering taxes. Over one million low-income Canadians are removed from the tax rolls, 380,000 of them seniors.

Finance  Speaker, as I travelled across this country, both in preparation for the budget and also after the budget, what we heard from Canadians was huge thanks for measures like cutting the GST, thanks for the TFSA, thanks from the nine million Canadians who have now invested in their retirement through a tax-free savings account. Tax freedom day is more than two weeks earlier than it has ever been under any Liberal government. Over a million low-income Canadians have been taken right off the tax roll. This government has a plan.

Taxation  That is why, since taking office in 2006, we have reduced the federal tax burden to its lowest level in 50 years. Could the Minister of State for Finance please inform Canadians how much earlier Tax Freedom Day is today compared to when our Conservative government took office?

Taxation  In fact, now Tax Freedom Day is over two weeks earlier than under the former Liberal government. Another interesting fact is that Canadians, because of our tax reductions, have $3,200 more, every year, of their own money in their pockets.

Tax Conventions Implementation Act, 2013  Speaker, I am honoured to add my voice in support of today's important debate on the 2013 income tax convention implementation bill, Bill S-17, another step toward lower taxes for all Canadians. Today, on tax freedom day, I would like to place Bill S-17 into the larger context. Over the years, our Conservative government has really devoted considerable effort to keeping taxes low for Canadian families and small business.

Tax Conventions Implementation Act, 2013  Speaker, to answer the question on records, today we reached another record milestone. We moved tax freedom day two weeks ahead. That is because of this government's policies of not just sitting in the House and debating issues but actually getting it done. If we waited for the NDP to support us on everything it opposes, we would probably not have a million more Canadians working today than were working in the depths of the recession in 2009.

Jobs, Growth and Long-Term Prosperity Act  This is an accomplishment we can be proud of for it has benefited millions of Canadians. I for one hope tax freedom day continues to arrive earlier and earlier and we as lawmakers push for that day to fall in April some day. That would be a tax freedom day for which we could all be proud. Canadians have worked hard, paid their taxes and trusted their government to do the right thing by them.

Extension of Sitting Hours  Under our government's economic action plan, Canada's deficit and taxes are going down. We heard today that Tax Freedom Day is today, June 11. I remember so clearly when I was running for office in 2005-06 that Tax Freedom Day was June 26. Here we are, fully two weeks earlier in reducing the tax burden on Canadians we have been called here to represent.

Finance  Speaker, in 2005, before our government was elected, under the tax-and-spend Liberals, tax freedom day was on June 26. Now, following over 140 tax reductions, like lowering the GST, personal taxes, business taxes, introducing the tax free savings account and much more, tax freedom day is now over two weeks earlier.
