The thing that this really does change is that instead of those very different and disparate departmental reports with a lot of challenge by anyone in terms of rolling it up, we're all agreeing as part of this process across the Government of Canada to report in certain areas and use certain indicators.

Environment committee  Thank you very much, Mr. Chair, for the question. We have been active. Since April 2006, we've actually had in place an approved Treasury Board policy on green procurement. The implementation of the policy was deemed satisfactory by the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development in his March 2008 report.

We are working across the Government of Canada to talk about both targets and measurement because we haven't done anything like this before in concert, in a unified way, that applied to so many departments at once in the same way, and we don't have the underlying systems to then report on a common indicator.
