Finance committee  In terms of the impact, I think probably the biggest impact we can demonstrate occurred after the program was initiated in 2003. At that time there were, I believe, four pediatric vaccines that had been approved and were on the market. What happens is that the federal government approves them; then they go through a review process through the National Advisory Committee on Immunization, and then it's up to the provinces to adopt them into their immunization schedules.

Finance committee  Yes. Our concern is that the workload for the drug approval process has been increasing as the complexity of the reviews increases and as the A-based funding--as was explained with respect to Ag Canada--is being eroded. They are recommending a cost-recovery program, which they're going to bring forward this fall, which we've supported on the grounds that it's tied to efficiency.
