National Defence committee  In terms of the projects that we have, there is $63.2 million for a range of different infrastructure projects that will include things like new energy performance contracts at CFB Petawawa, for example, and the clean energy pilot with RidgeBlade at CFB Trenton. We're partnering with the National Research Council to launch a smart buildings pilot across a number of bases in military housing life-cycle upgrades.

National Defence committee  To ensure the safety of our personnel, as the minister is saying, the supplementary estimates (C) include $5.8 million in capital funding for projects to upgrade security at our bases. The funding is being carried forward from fiscal year 2016-17 to 2017-18 due to some delays in the project approval.

I'll start by indicating that the health and safety of Canadian Armed Forces members, our DND civilians, as well as the public is the priority for the Department of National Defence. Since 1987 we have been ensuring that asbestos-containing materials are not used in new construction or any major renovations.
