Canadian Heritage committee  That's the one thing we were very excited about, I will not disagree with that. I think the $30 million that was invested in 2006 was welcomed by all of us, and we were involved with meetings at the council to look at how it was being distributed amongst all sectors. We're all fi

Canadian Heritage committee  What we were asking for was that it be doubled in 2006, and $30 million wasn't double. Our campaign was $5 per capita, which would have been from $150 million to $300 million. The $30 million was just a little bit, and we were, like, “Yea!”, but it doesn't come close.

Canadian Heritage committee  I don't disagree; however, it's a totally different sector from the one I'm representing. It seems, again, that the current government is really shifting funds to commercial, entertainment-oriented spending. Those funds do not fund any of the members I represent--none of them. T

Canadian Heritage committee  No, it was $150 million. I was very much involved with that lobby.

Canadian Heritage committee  I'm sorry, that's wrong. It wasn't $100 million; it was at $150 million, and it was increased by $30 million. The biggest problem for our sector is that by the time the money trickles down to the media arts, it's not that much. Especially because right now with the whole shift t

Canadian Heritage committee  If we're talking about how much it costs to keep that program running, the economic spin-off effect from the grants that were given to artists and production companies was enormous. In the film industry, if you can't go to other countries to present your movies, you don't have bu

Finance committee  In terms of the ongoing funding in the arts and cultural sector, yes, the message I'm really trying to push is that we really need core, stable funding, an increase to the Canada Council that is permanent, and also to keep programs like the Tomorrow Starts Today initiative. In th

Canadian Heritage committee  For our members, we're noticing an increase in the number of media arts festivals and works being produced by culturally diverse groups. We would love to see a lot more of those works recorded and shown on CBC. In preparing this brief, I looked at new media as a possible interes

Canadian Heritage committee  I absolutely agree with that, especially for young contemporary artists. Right now we don't get enough coverage, that's clear. Our fear is really if the CBC does go towards commercial advertising as a way to support itself, we're really scared that we won't get any coverage at t
